Hi everyone,

Am now pround owner of a Z4 58 plate roadster. Very very happy but have a few issues:

1) 3 rattles:
a) the center storage area (where phone goes) - press it when driving and it stops
b) Another one behind front right vent on the dash
c) Most annoying one - over right shoulder

2) Cigerette lighter wont charge anything - phone or sat nav - but does work?

Can anyone help? Would really appreciate it - thanks

Push it in further and it will work OK, for some reason the socket fools you into thinking you've fully plugged in when you haven't.

Congratulations on the new car BTW

Cure for the rattles - turn up the radio :D

as mike say about the cig lighter - push it in farther...

Seconded, and tightening up any visible screw in the doors and under the dash (while somebody holds the dash upwards) can help with the rattles.

Not had any luck with creaks and rattle from behind the seats.

Ive had my Z4 for about six months now and I have never known a car to rattle and creak as this one does.... I seem to have become acustomed to it now. Drove the other half's TT the other day and couldnt believe how silent the interior was in comparison. Still love it though.

Thank you everyone - I'm off to have a play and will let you know how I get on.

Still would welcome any additional tips. Cheers.

Oh....and what a car!!!! I'm in love.

Ok - update time.

Cig lighter - you were right pushed it down hard and phone charger works. However, still cant get my blackberry bold charger to work. It was cheap so I suspect it is just a bad fit. Feels like the z4 lighter is a bit temperamental though. As an aside - I have bluetooth fitted but I can't find a cradle for my Blackberry Bold 9000. There is one for the 3 series but reportedly wont fit the z4. Anymore views on the charger/cig lighter?

And as for the rattles..............2 hours later.......3 hours later...........

Rattle A) Got the one behind the centre consol (between the seats where phone cradle goes). Not a great solution - just jammed in some foam that will need putting back everytime I open the hatch but it only seems to connect onto a catch and I can't find a permanent way of securing it? Any ideas?

Rattle B) Had right vent off (2 screws) packed with foam and fingers are now well and truely crossed. Will find out on the way to work tomorrow.

Rattle C) Now this one has got me. It is right by my right ear lobe behind the loose cloth of the roof - maybe slightly below. There just doesnt seem to be anything in there to rattle so I am completey baffled. There must be someone out there who has had the same problem? Pleeeeease help.

At this rate it is either gonna be a) roof down all the time even when raining or b) stereo at max.

Love the car

don't know if this will help but recently every time
my other half had been in the passenger seat, afterwards there was ananoyingcreaking from the headrest area
.... Turned out she was putting the seat asfar back as it would go and the back of the seat was rubbing against the rear bulkhead

problem solved

good luck

Nice car. Same combo as mine. I've learnt to live with the rattles. Loud music and also after sometime u will accustomed to it.

Do you have the BMW wind deflector? On one side of mine, the plastic insert that goes in the middle of the roll hoop rattles. I've yet to sort mine out but it sounds like just the right place for your rattle.

Thanks everyone.

I will check out the wind deflector as I do have one and also the position of the seat, and let you all know. Great ideas.

The sound is over my right ear and it is right hand drive.

Yes I get rattles if I have the seat pushed against the rear, being 6ft 3" its annoying, just have to have it slightly forward and deal with position.

The rear of my passenger seat rattles, I really must be bothered to investigate it!
