Rattle when switching off the engine??

Hey Guys,

I've noticed an annoying rattle noise when I switch off my engine (car is a 3.0i 2003 model with 65K on the clock)?? Also seem to get a clicking/clunking in second gear sometimes?

Not sure when the clutch was replaced (may never have been come to think of it?!), but can anyone suggest anything I should look at?

It's due a service in October with Mid-Kent Technical, so hopefully they will pick up on anything out of place.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers.

Pete :)

if depressing the clutch stops the rattle then my advice is to just ignore it; it's a very common issue unless you want to waste money replacing the clutch springs :)

Either Lay Shaft, Input Shaft, DMF, or Clutch release bearing - All in all the 3.0SI N52 has a notoriously rattle clutch/gearbox either pulling off at slow speeds and/or stopping the engine with the clutch pedal raised, its generally nothing to worry about.

i get this too. what is it? the clutch release bearing... i thought these were on a hydraulic clutch
Hydraulic or not, moving parts still need bearings. While hydraulic, it's not the fancy hydraulic collar you're thinking of. It's a master slave/cylinder affair that operates a traditional lever which pushes the release bearing to remove the clutch plate pressure against the disc and flywheel.

Even with the hydraulic collar, there is a release bearing built into the mechanism.
