Hi Guys,

My 2004 3.0i Z4 has just developed an annoying rattle from the what appears to be the centre of the dash close to the windscreen. However, this only happens below 3k when accelerating... any ideas? Going to investigate it at the weekend but I'm not entirely sure what to look for lol

Thanks

as 'srhutch' says, mine had it when i first bought it, drove me mad. i was prepared to remive the dash it was that annoying. i looked on here and as above, gave the bolt under the hood on the strutt bracing a very very slight tighten and it dissapeared !

thanks for the quick response guys, will get my head under the hood at the weekend..hope it is just that

The rattle seems to be coming from the sound generator ... i removed the pipe that connects to the cabin and the rattle went. I did the sound generator mod a few weeks ago but ended up putting the foam back in as it was too loud. Now the part that connects to the cabin it loose....i can't get the pipe to go fully into the hole ... any idea's??? No matter how much force i use to get the pipe to connect properly it doesn't fit snug anymore argh!!!

I think mine is doing exactly this also, its resonates at certain rpm like 1500 and 2200. Let me know if you find anything and ill do the same :)

Is the rubber grommet presently on the pipe, or in the hole on the firewall? It should be fitted in the hole before you try to insert the plastic pipe.

Thank powerontap, when i removed the pipe the whole thing came off so the rubber gromet was still on the end of the pipe. Now its sorted :D

Love this forum. been dealing with this for the past year or so. didnt bother tbh but i started to investigate into it. Indeed it was the sound generator. Grommet wasnt fully attached to the body of the car. looked like this:

removed the whole pipe, properly attached the grommet to the body and installed the pipe again. was a tight fit. no rattle :D :D
