Rare in my area...but met a Z3 owner.

So there I was after work after buying my nightly imbibes of beer.
Staring intently at my phone as I'm in a Faction that is heavily involved in a game, before I put it in drive to continue my journey home....
This trucks pull up in front of me blocking my path and gets out. So I rolled the widow down and he asked...
"What year is this thing?"
I replied, "2006"
He nodded, "Damm sweet man. My wife has a 2001 Z3. Only has 40K miles."

So I asked, "Wanna trade up?" Knowing what I do know and just smiled.

He looked inside, saw my clock of 76k....smiled...commented about it. Asked how it drives in the rain as he drove his wifes Z3 in the rain same time as I and it was a torrential beast. Told him it was a bit squirmy due to the wide tires, but did ok. He claimed his wifes Z3 was a bit of a nightmare in that rainstorm. I reminded him the Z4 was a lil bit longer and heavier than the Z3.
He laughed and nodded.

Said he see's me all the time, and would ask the wife if she wanted to trade up. Commented on my car and what he has seen of it from a year ago when he first started seeing it to what she looks like today. REALLY made me grin.
It was then I asked if it was the one I always seen going the other way and he said most likely. Z's in our area are kind of rare.
So i mentioned the silver one I see from time to time sightings stopped but I did see a light yellow one recently.
"Yep," he said, "Thats the wifes. She wanted a new paint job."

Mind you it aint horrendous in color. Defiantly not original BMW paint. Was interesting.

Not sure it would be a downgrade for me tho. 40k on the clock and back to a manual and soft top.
Decisions decisions as we did trade phone numbers.

I can say Im 5 Grand into this car with repairs and lil somthings that it needed. Not including the cost of the car it's self. I figure I will be 10 grand in before im happy and back to show room quality. I've never stuck this kind of cash into a car, even in my tubbed out 69 SS
But i can say by the time I hit my cap of 10k, it will be able to go 500k miles if not more and look grander than she does now.
So, do I want to start over?

What would you do? :headbang:

You've invested a lot in your z to get it right- I'd stick as is- mileage doesn't matter if you know the miles are good. My Z has 65k but 55K of that was buy me so I know it inside out. Now not a DD so mileage wont go up at any great rate from now.

Well, this Z3 did not meet up to the standard like it could have. The interior was in piss poor shape like the top had been left down on many rainy nights. Dis-colored and blotchy. Moldy smelling, uhhhh.

The paint job realy sucked. There was streaks in a few spots, not a good finish and just plain looked like a rattle can job.

With what I got invested in mine, I'll just keep it and continue going for my mint condition. Just thought you would like to know the end of the story.

Are you saying a Z3 is a better all round car than a Z4? Don't talk garbage.

Where shall we start

Tim.

Touché that man! The Z3 is far more fun to drive and has bags more character.

I was jesting in all honesty although the Garbage reference was a little harsh unless in jest too :)

I think the Z3 and Z4 are completely different in character and who they might appeal too to be honest, I've met plenty of Z3 owners who wouldn't even look at a Z4 and vice versa, personally I do prefer the Z3 as for me it has that more classic retro roadster look, the Z4 a more modern take that appeals in itself. I would prefer the Z4s glass rear screen over the Z3s awful placcie one, but then I prefer the Z3s interior over the awful Z4s so swings and roundabouts. The fact I got rid of the E89 and still have the Z3 after 8 years speaks volumes to me :) I never thought when I was in the E89 I was in a proper roadster maybe as it felt too modern :?

Tim.
