He thought he'd hit the lottery until he found that no one wanted to buy a car that didn't stop well and that you couldn't open the passenger window from the driver's seat.
Generally, while rarity of specific options may make a car easier to sell, it often fails to attract higher prices. And rarity is relative - I have owned or still own cars made in total numbers of 70, 100, 276, 500, 1266, 2000, 3500 etc., all less than the lovely Z4MC (which I also own).

Interesting - I had thought that there were around 135 MCs that came to Canada. But I'm looking at total production numbers, not how they were distributed, so that is almost 4600 cars, which isn't in the rare category, just a bit scarce.

Scarce, yes. But a quick search shows that you can choose from 10 Z1s on one site if you want to buy one. Rare is when you have to look for 6 months to find even one for sale. A 507 is truly rare!
So is an M1, which I'd much rather own than the rather odd Z1 - but they do have similar noses! A chap I knew owned what was probably exceptionally rare, a 1950s BMW sedan with small V8 (502, I think). Although they did make a fair number of them, they weren't valued that highly and many were allowed to rust away, so I expect that there are few still in good shape today.
