Rapid revving and hunting at cold idle

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and has managed to solve it.

Immediately after a cold start the engine revs and hunts quite quickly-just like blipping the throttle. This has only happened today (twice) and only during the cold start cycle, after that the car is fine, idles smoothly and drives like normal. It does take quite a few turns of the starter to start though, but it's always been like that unless I use it daily.

From searching it seems like it could be one of a few things (the ISV is my first port of call due to similar experience on another car) but I though I'd ask in case anyone has already remedied this one.

Thanks

Thanks, it's on the hit list-I'll have a look as I take apart the ISV setup.

Get the idle control valve checked and cleaned if necessary,b a good Indy,as they can gunk up and become sticky.

Search on here for info, under icv cleaning or similar.
Had this issue with mine,as well as jerky ,coughing and spluttering then over revving...got this done and it's been great since.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Craig, with any luck it will be a simple, cheap solution like this.

Typically, the more you search on the web the more you find that it could be! I found one post where someone had similar issues and shortly after his vanos died.... :o  :headbang: then there's all various sensors, fuel filter/FPR (looks a right pain to do) etc etc!

Well, so far the fix has been to do nothing at all :D The next few cold starts have been faultless so I'm hoping it will continue. I'll obviously keep an eye on it but fingers crossed it was just a temporary midlife crisis -it has just passed 10 years and 50k after all!
