My local Hospital is County Hospital in Stafford. It opened in 1983 and to my mind has always been a good hospital until it became a Trust Hospital and the care scandals surfaced along with chronic money shortages and mis management. To save money alot of the services have been transferred to North Staffs and Wolverhampton Hospitals, AE was down graded a few years back and is closed after 8pm so any emergencies have to go to either Stoke or Wolverhampton now. A report on Staffords AE has now been released with a view to downgrading A&E further with a view to closing it and most likely with a long term view of closing Stafford Hospital altogether.

This is in light of AE at Stoke hospital to being near breaking point with reported waiting times of 12 hours in A&E in some cases,

I understand BREXIT could potentially cost Britain and estimated 55 billion a year.

It was pretty much the same before joining the EU, with Brexit in place we get the same fodder without Brussels telling us how to do it for an EXTRA price hike.
Politicians will never change all they ever do is feed them selves and mis-manage everything they ever come in contact with, and when they f**k up they get a pay rise with no consequences for the damage they leave behind.
Biggest thing missing in this country is a formal system for identifying who lives here, otherwise it"s going to carry on as is.
Nothing works and nobody cares and when it does work nobody knows why,,, life of a politician as is today!!!!!!

And stop insulting the chimps, they KNOW how to feed themselves without destroying the country, politicians on the other hand ?
 
Government controlled spending is the biggest mismanaged joke ever.

My office is opposite the local towns, now closed doctors, dentist, library and health clinic.

A huge, inefficient, old building. 90% of what was there has been centralised/relocated well over 6 months ago. BUT the lights and heating are on 24/7. A classic example of wasting huge sums. The place is lit up like a xmas tree.

But could we help out the old people who can't afford heating or turn on the street lights? No, there's no money for that because we're spending that money on an old, empty building.

When they emptied this building, everything went in the skip, cupboards, desks, chairs, cabinets, kitchen units, etc etc. Perfectly good furniture that any private business would have kept or sold. Instead, local people got word and emptied the skips and presumably sold on the furniture.

Whilst this kind of wastage is still rife, then there is no money shortage.

The issue is mismanagement.

The local fire station is now being centralised with two other towns. Only last year, they replaced every external door and window in the place. There must be 20 plus windows and 5 doors.
 
Decision has been made to close my local A&E. shame it's going this way but it's f**k all to do with brexit.
 
I know its nothing to do with Brexit, but feel money thats going to be wasted in leaving the EU could be better spent when we didn't need to leave the EU in the first place. Its scandalous if you ask me. It probably needs Brussels to run our Health Service and railways as this country appears incapable.

Actavis increased price of hydrocortisone tablets since 2008 . . .

Well a few years back a friends husband was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney and was denied the necessary tablets that may have extended his life as he lived in the wrong post code :cry:

Whilst I appreciate the population is ageing, people are living longer but its all about money ahead of lives.

The Hospital our kids were born in no longer exists. it was a mile down the road and more importantly a lovely maternity home. Now days there's a neon lit kids factory wing in the huge county Hospital, 50 miles away. :thumbsdown:
 
Having worked in the NHS for over 13 years, it's frustrating to see what the government is doing to it. Severe lack of funding and contracts being awarded to the private sector. Social care is going the same way. And it's the patients who suffer in the end (Stafford being the high profile example), not the politicians.

I'm knocking on 52 now and it does worry me and dread to think what the health service will be like in my 70s. Hopefully better.

My daughter is a newbie dentist self employed working at a combined NHS and Private practice in Edinburgh.

She spent the wole of one of her shifts doing childrens NHS checkups. Guess how much she earned?

£0

That is not a misprint, the NHS do not pay for childrens check ups. (Can't speak for England)

So, what do you think her attitude is to working for the NHS?

She is sticking two fingers up to the NHS and is focussing on going purely Private. I have experienced first hand the sacrifices we have all made as a family over several years to help her achieve her ambition as a dentist.

I back her 100%. Can you ever imagine an NHS manager working for fcuk all?
