Range Rover P38 or MG ZT-T

Hi folks. I know this is a BMW site, but i thought i would canvas opinion on two cars i am thinking of getting. The thought behind it being, is that if i ask a specialist site for those cars, they are both likely to say how great they are!!!

I have just sold my old Rover P6 as i am getting a big dog soon and clearly it won't be going in the Z Coupe. I needed to sell the old car and want to replace it with a big estate car. Currently the cars on my short list are a Range Rover P38, either 4.0 or 4.6 V8 or an MG ZT-T (estate) with 2.5 V6. I am looking to spend upto 3500 pounds only.

Has anyone on here got horror stories from either car? Or can you think of anything else within that budget?

Regards

Mark

How about a Subaru Forester, seems to be reccomended a lot as a workhorse, there are some nice speedy models available too :driving:

both have lots to go wrong at the age you'll get for £3.5k, if it was me i'd want something more reliable and cheaper to fix, get a lot of ford mondeo estate for that kind of money or a volvo?

Yeah, I'd rather look at a Mondeo or possibly even a Passat estate.

Or you could get a nice E34 525i ... well made cars, those!

I have considered a Subaru, but as silly as it sounds, i know they can be very thirsty (yes, i know i have posted about a Range Rover V8), and i don't trust Jap Import cars after i had my hands burnt once by an import.
A BMW estate in my price bracket will be a lot older and have space shuttle mileage, and i would prefer something with less than 100k miles on it. A volve V70 is tempting, especially as i had one once.

My only concern with a regular estate it space. The dog i am getting is already huge and is only two, so he might grow bigger. He is part Rotti, part Husky and part German Shepard. All the big breeds rolled into one!

Just sold a P38 a few months ago. Was nice and luxurious, but a pain.

Had lots of niggly things that needed to be fixed.

eg. Low brake fluid warning when it wasn't low.

Remote locking didnt work

Battery went flat due to in car sensor working overtime (was ok after replacement)

Wasn't sporty enough - laboured a bit when putting the foot down.

Brakes not that hot.

Random message sand beeping eg. Left rear bulb failure, followed by right rear bulb failure etc.

Replaced it with a Range Rover Sport supercharged (v8). Looks like they worked out all the problems from the P38, as the sport is a fantastic car. MY OH and I argue about who gets to drive :D

Erm, get a smaller dog.................something that will fit curled up in the footwell of the Z4. :D :D
