Range after a fill...

I've just done a tank of perfectly combined fast and slow stuff, the light came on at 185, I let it go to 220 then bottled it with 20 left in reserve.
Still don't understand how you can get 300, and enjoy your car like I do :) Maybe the MPG will improve with a few more miles under its belt...

True!

Just do as I do in my Z4. Fill it up, drive how you should in a sports car, when the gauge says empty, fill it up again! :P

I rarely look at my MPG to be honest!

Same here now.

I suppose it helps that I don'tdo too much driving, but haven't really checked my figures for a long time. Only time I do is when I go on the long trek to the folks,

I don't really look at range but I seem to be getting around 23mpg on average.

Based on mpg per bhp (if there is such a thing!), I think this car is the best performance car for fuel economy I've had. My 350Z, RX8 and Impreza's all averaged either the same or less than this, and they all have less bhp. I think I need to go and work out some miles/bhp calculations now..... :D

I cant belive guys getting 300miles+, 40mpg. sounds crazy. I did a weekend run down south, not much traffic driving around 80-90mph mostly motorway driving and still only managed 270mph with it showing ---. I dont think i'll ever get close to 300 unless i drive at 50mph all the way. If i wanted that i would have bought an electric car. 8)

I've cleared 260 miles now and the gauge is showing just under a quarter of a tank left, but the warning light is on already - seems a touch early to me..? Computer is showing 49 miles left in the tank too.

Totally blows my old '07 Impreza away on the fuel economy front. I'd normally just about squeeze 240 miles out of an identical £ fill up in that.

Astonishing for such a powerful and quick car. :o

Even when the guage shows empty & 0 miles to go, you'll still have a gallon in the tank. I wouldn't recommend driving it very far on that gallon though as I think the fuel is also used to cool the fuel pump.

I tend to fill up as soon as the light comes on and that's normally at about 240 miles with 60 left to go - even driving around Liverpool this week at no more than 40mph I'm still managing 18mpg.

My motorway cruising is usually at 90mph on the clock (85mph real), but if it's busy and I have to sit at 70mph then the ecomony does increase by 3-4mpg.

I'm not worried about the MPG as it returns better than my M5 at every speed, and it's only a couple of quid in the grand scheme of things - after all, who's worried about £10 a week on fuel when I can drink a £100 bottle of Barolo in 2 hours

I get around 280miles when I fill up and average around 26mpg. My 330ci convertible used to average 19mpg so I'm well pleased with the improved fuel consumption

That seems a bit odd to me, I get 20mpg from my Z4M whereas I used to get 27mpg from my old 330ci :?

I've just looked at this again and am confused. I am averaging 21.4 mpg at the moment and the tank holds 14.5 gallons, which equates to a range of 310 miles. I know I don't run it dry, but how is it that I am getting about 200/220 miles for a tank of fuel when the light comes on? There only seems to be a reserve of about 30/50 miles when this happens so the figures don't add up :?

Are you sure the tank is 14.5 gal.
mine doesn't seem that big......not really analysed though.

flimper, are you reading from the fuel computer or actually calculating the MPG yourself?

From the computer

The tank capacity is 14.5 US gallons, which is 12 UK gallons.

Thanks, you've put me out of my misery :)

So the range of a full tank should be 256 miles. That sounds about right to me.

With both of the answers then. If you calculate your MPG it will be less than the computer, add that to the tank size and it all makes sense.
