Hi there this is a strange one but I’d thought I’d ask on here to see if anyone has any idea I drive a bmw e85 2.2 Z4 and randomly at times when I’m driving if I lift off the accelerator the car will dip almost like the handbrake is pulled the revs fall quicker than they should this happens in any gear and happens as I said at random times it is quite hard to explain does anyone have any ideas
Matt.

Sticking caliper? maybe sometimes its not releasing fully so when you stop accelerating its still braking slightly.

When you feel it dragging again, try feeling the wheels and see if any are unusually hot, this would indicate which calliper could be sticking.

I'd imagine if a caliper was sticking though you'd have the car pulling to that side?

I would have thought the same, but this didn’t happen when my front left caliper stuck. Suspect it’s because it’s probably stuck at a point where brake pressure is very light and/or the pad isn’t straight. Mine still got so hot that the wheel centre cap softened and fell out. :?

I did think at first it could be a sticking calliper but I have recently changed all the pads and discs and the calipers moved in and out freely without any problems so I thought this might not be my problem plus I have even brake dust on all four wheels so this doesn’t seem to indicate a problem either.
Matt.

It mostly happens after you change pads though - it’s the pushing back of the piston to clear the new pad/disc that introduces dirt etc into the seals or causes misalignment.

Not 100% likely, of course. Hope you get it sorted, whatever it is.
