Random bolt spat from car?!

It's most likely just that the bolt was picked up thrown into your arches by the Tyres, hence the noise, so as others have said might not even be yours.

This was my thought to..

No harm in checking the likely places on the car over though.

If you can get to ox28 I will check for you. But I had my diff out last year. And it looks just like the bolts. From the diff.

Thank you, that is a very kind offer. It has a couple of other niggles so was contemplating getting in touch with Iridium in Southampton as seem to have great feedback on here. Will let you know. Thank you again

Hey not sure if you worked out where the bolt came from but when I was doing a few jobs on my car this weekend I noticed similar bolts on the sump and on the oil filter housing, pics below. Worth checking.

Hi All. Very little in the way of an update from me on this, I was busy finishing my T4 camper van conversion for Glastonbury. Focus very much back on the Z4 now. Hardly moved the Z4 since my first post, so I was surprised when driving a short distance up the road, to now get what I can only describe as a "thumping" sound from the nearside front, the same place I initially heard a metallic sound and I am now 99% certain where a bolt from my car was left in the road. (I also still get the sound when I am freewheeling).

Any thoughts? I am very wary of turning a wheel again presently!

Update from me, issue identified.

Nice guy from local garage drove over to take a look and checked the the rear drive shaft, only ONE bolt was tight, the remaining (4 is it?) all fell out just by being slightly turned.

The guy who looked at it was astonished as am I.

Driving car (slowly) to garage first thing tomorrow to get it up on a ramp (it's just over 1 mile away).

Maybe check the bolts on the other drive shaft, the propshaft and the 3 diff bolts too.
If this was a screw up while installing a diff all those can be loose.
The propshaft bolts might be difficult to check with the exhaust and heatshield in place

Just for closure on this one, other bolts checked and all OK, just the near-side rear, very strange. Enjoying driving the Zed once more! Thanks for comments and suggestions to everyone who contributed to this thread.
