Raining Oil

Hi, all
Just a quick question, if any of you guys have had problems with "water egress" in the hydraulic roof system. I put my roof down the other day and was covered in hydraulic oil. Man that stuff smells. Luckily my sister is a BMW service advisor but she says it has only occurred on one or 2 E89's to her knowledge. Hope a new hose is all I need as I'm told a new unit is around 2.5k
Thanks for your comments

Think the water has got into the mechanism and corroded the hose end, it's spraying out the corner at the bottom of the rear window on the drivers side. As this folds on top of the roof half it runs down the drain channel and onto the seat + seat belt. Booked into see my sister next week. Hope she can fix it u without breaking the bank.

Fairly sure there was a guy on here who had a big hydraulic oil leak on the roof ! The car was deep sea blue but can't remember his name :?

Apparently they modified it in 2012... but mine is the old design - hope it stays fine, I keep it in the garage always. :|

I'd be amazed if a hydraulic coupling had corroded through in a few years. I'd expect a burst hose or similar. Such connectors live outside in bad weather all their lives.

Hope it's the simple cheap fix.
