Brilliant. I especially like:

"This method can also be used to keep ski goggles from fogging up. Rub raw potato over the goggles when changing into your ski gear. Sure, you'll need to remember to cut a potato in half and pop it into a plastic bag before going to the ski field, but the clear vision will make it a worthwhile effort."

Hmm will try that in March when I next go skiing. Will look like a right wally

But wouldnt the condensation form on the inside and not the outside of the glass?
...and would chips work?

I would try and avoid chips on your windscreen.....

Hey Ruby here is another thread on Honest John:- http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=14119

Rory seems to back up the idea

"Cleaning windscreen with potato - rory
Am I the only one that remembers that a raw potato, cut in half and rubbed over the outside of the windscreen keeps the rain off when your windscreen wipers pack up or, as was the case in my grandfather's car, the vacuum wipers were not so hot on a long uphill road.

For ski goggles i use this liquid used on swimming goggles, which stops those misting, last ages for me, infact i didnt even top it up this yr and works from last yrs application.

I've got visions of an army of zed owners rubbing half a King Edward over their windscreens.
Poseurs, hairdressers now vegetable abusers.

At the risk of being sensible, I found that Gtechniq G5 is far better than Rain-X. Rain-X lasts a few week, the G5 lasts 12 months or more from a single application.

I got some rainx type stuff from costco, comes in this applicator which spreads it around for you.

Its brillant! Will have to try and find the other two to get the name.

Is that the one that burns your skin if you happen to get any on you? It's in a little blister pack that you 'snap' open to release the agent!

I tried rainex before but it made the rear window hazy at night. Perhaps I applied it wrongly?

Sounds good but for those 2 things I use something cheap - bit of saliva works a treat :D . I don't think I could quite stretch to covering my rear windscreen.

How do you apply it wrongly? How hard can it be? I still haven't bought any, been too busy.

It rained half way through so I don't think it cured properly before buffing off.

Secret with rainx is to apply then wait until dry , , then buff it off like a polecat in a frenzy or it does appear hazy in sunlight ,
I tend to use it on front screen only when i have a long motorway journey so if it rains i have no need for wipers :| very helpful on long night drives
Its a good product but not without fault .

Ruby, any progress with the potato experiment?

p.s: I used Rain-Ex on my previous car before the Zed, it worked well on the motorway, but after a month or two lost effectiveness. Let us know how it goes.

Disappointed in the scepticism - used to be folk would listen to advice from the older generation - taz is the only one to state dads are always right. well perhaps not but make do advice like this used to be the norm and worth knowing and passed on - surprised so few have heard about it - too many products devised to be essential.
Times change but I was amazed that my adult kids couldn't understand why their early retired teacher dad had bought them each a hand made wooden turned apple as a reminder of their old man and his job - they didn't get it! Times change :( indeed! Writing this has made me feel about 106 years old!
