Rain sensors?

Hello!

Ordering a new windscreen and they asked if I have rain sensors. I have no idea if I do (e85) how can I tell?

On your wiper stalk do you have a little scrolling wheel.. If you do.. Then no you havent :-)

Mine has auto wipers - and a little scrolling wheel - I understood that they all have the wheel?? but don't all have auto wipers?

Could confirm for certain by doing a search on here to find the link that allows you to check the original factory spec. using the VIN

Can't see anything about rain sensors. I can't remember if the blades speed up during heavy rain, I *think* they do so probably am just going to order one with rain sensors (doesnt cost me any more as insurance is covering this)
 
I only have the info to hand for my 1 series (as you do :-) ) but that states it has a RainSensor.

Reading between the lines then I'd say you probably haven't got one.
 
If I order one with rain sensors, will it create an embarrassing moment when it's being installed if it turns out I don't?
 
I do windscreens for a living

The option number for rain sensing is S521A, which you do not appear to have. Installing a sensor windscreen without the actual sensor would be a bad idea, there would be this weird prism below the mirror that is not covered. The rain sensor is a rather obvious rectangular light sensor of some kind below the mirror when viewed from outside. If you flick some water on it when the wipers are on to the first click, it should trigger a wipe cycle.

Since all xenon lights are required to be auto adjusting by law in many countries, I think it's a bad assumption to assume it correlates to rain sensing wipers.
 
Awesome thanks for advice and photos everyone, no rain sensor currently installed from looking at photos and am getting the new windscreen on wednesday

Flick the stalk to position one and throw a bucket of water in the screen. If they move... :D
 
Look from the outside at the top centre of your windscreen,if you have a black circle about 30 mm in diameter you have no sensor
If on the other hand you have an egg(ish) shaped black band about 100mm deep with a rectangular sensor in it you have auto wipers
 
If your getting a new screen installed insist on a new moulding . Original will stretch and tbh not worth the hassle

What do you mean by a new moulding ? The rubber round the screen ?
