Rag top to Tin top

Ok... Im gonna set the cat amongst the pigeons and just come out with it.... Im thinking of swapping my 04 3.0SE Roadster for a Coupe.. I dont know why and I know it takes away the whole original purpose of the Z4 but I just personally think they look drop dead gorgeous.. Supposed to drive bettter to from reviews by Evo and the like.

Here's my deliberation though.. Im looking at spending around 16 - 18K. Do I go for a 3.0SI Sport, something like a 57 plate with all the bells and whistles on (theres some nice ones about at the minute), or do I fork out a bit more for the running costs (not sure exactly how much this will be) and get a Z4M coupe. Its so tempting when one can be had for the same or even a little less money than the SI. But looking beyond the running costs, would the M hold its value much better over say 3 yrs?

Ive drove my mates M roadster quite alot and just love the feeling you get and the power is amazing. I just dont want to get the SI and wish I had gone for an M if I can afford it..

Look forward to everyones comments and thoughts.

Cheers

If the coupe suits your lifestyle then go for it. If I had to choose, I would go for the ///M. Suppose it depends on if you can afford the bump in insurance/servicing/fuel.

*EDIT, also, the different in driving between the M coupe and M roadster you probably wouldn't even notice during normal road driving :P

It is a better looking beast - the M will give you raw power as i find the standard SI tame coming from a S2000. It's a question of can you live with costs of a ///M - if so - Get a ///M!

Well, mine's still for sale, and while there is some negotiation room built into the price it'd still be at the top of your budget - but then it'd need nothing doing for 13,000 miles - and it's getting detailed next week.

However, I will not—as some callers seem to expect—negotiate over the phone before they've actually seen the car :headbang:

Personally i think owning an M depends on your driving style.... while i loved the "rawness" of my old S2K i actually quite prefer the tameness of my 3.0 compared to it, it requires less effort to drive - which the same would apply to an M.

Although i have to admit on occassions i did wish i had got an M instead.. just for the extra rpm over mine... but as my car is mainly used for motorway cruising and the commute to work those times are far and few between.. and overall the 3.0 suits me much better.

Taz x must be alseep or doing something productive as to not have his wise words on a thread like this is worrying :poke:

How long do we leave it till we call the police?

that aside, i do love the shape of the coupe but i love my rag top more. i never noticed Z4's until i saw the coupe and thought WTF is that then was even more bemused when i saw the BMW badge on the back.

You just need to work out what the extra will be for insurance, servicing and the miles you run for mpg. can you afford it?

JDM I have recently just bought a 3.0si Coupe. I had come from a VX220 (and a saloon) and I drove a great deal of different combinations of spec and suspension etc.before settling on the 3.0si Sport.

The M coupes that I drove ( I had to drive a 2nd car just to be sure! :thumbsup: ) were astonishingly quick cars. For me though i felt the ride was just too hard and as it would be my only car, I couldn't live with it on a day to day basis.

Each car has good points and bad points and my advise would be to drive different cars and if possible, try to be as close together as you can and make up your own mind as to what will work best for you, at the end of the day it's you that will have to live with it and your opinion is the only one that really matters.

I don't regret for 1 second my choice not to get the M

M without question. If you have the doubt in your mind now, you will suffer some serious buyer's-remorse if you settle for the standard model! :evil:

Right, Firstly thanks for all the responses people, its much appreciated.

My good friend (Bunnyjoyrider) on here, kindly leant me his M for the last week so I could see what it was like to live with day to day in terms of driving in traffic, on motorway runs and average MPG etc... The conclusion is that although the car is awesome and I love it, I think as a daily driver doing anywhere between 15 to 18k per year, it was going to cost me too much not only in fuel but in servicing. If it was a weekend car which it is for my mate then I wouldnt hesitate.

So the upshot is I have just sealed the deal on a. 07 3.0si Sport Coupe. Deposit paid and pick it up on Saturday :D

No photos yet as the vehicle is still awaiting prep at their "Ferrari Dealership" apparently, hope this is better than BMW's normal effort at valeting and prepping :headbang: .. I have been promised some photos emailed to me over the next couple of days.

Spec is as follows:
* Metallic Sapphire Black
* Manual
* 34,000 Miles
* 18" 108 Composite alloys (4 brand new tyres)
* Bluetooth Prep
* Heated Seats
* Individual Leather Phoenix yellow / anthracite (which I actually like, I know not many of you do lol)
* Sun Protection Glass
* Business Loudspeaker System (not sure how good this is)
* Cruise Control

Cant wait to get it, ill post pics up when I get them emailed if any of you are interested.

Cheers guys.

I'm here hehe

What can I say but yes, the coupe is a true beauty, glad you have got it sorted, pics asap :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

edit: interested to see the yellow trim, i think it will look good

Another convert from a roadster to the coupe,the exclusive coupe club is growing fast :thumbsup:
It will be a long week,but look forward to the pics especially the interior :thumbsup:

Oh no, got a Coupe but no cupholders - what have you done?

Anyway - don't get involved in any arguments over which is best Coupe or roadster, they are both fantastic. I have an MC and love it for how I use it but for the miles you do the Si is a good choice.

I couldn't live with your seats but mine are Imola and I bet there are plenty who couldn't live with mine. The world would be boring if we were all the same.

No sat nav? Probably a good bargaining point when you were buying and not too hard to retrofit if you want it. You won't miss it as much as cupholders.

Welcome to the exclusive Coupe Owners Club (or COC for short).

Sorry forgot to say it's got comfort pack aswell so will have the cupholders , although to be fair all they do is add to the rattles!!

Right.

Pics are attached for those who are interested. Im off to pick it up in the morning. Staring the 3.5hr drive along with bunnyjoyrider at 7am in the morning.

I think the car looks lovely in the pics and the interior really suits the black paint IMHO, but let the debate begin :fuelfire:

Just noticed that the rear view mirror is different to the roadster. It looks more like that from an M3. Is that the case with Coupe's ???
