Yup, my lad is on 29 Sqn.

They had it painted up, then wanted to get it into the hangar for the press release last Friday without any 'spy shots' getting out.
So around 1am on Friday morning they switched all the airfield lights out and nipped across so no-one would see it.
They were also threatened with castration by the Sqn Warrant Officer if they took photos before that! :D

And then you get people whinging about the cost.............. and some other numpty saying it was a European collaboration so it should have the blue flag with all them stars on it! FFS!!!

while i admire the symmetry, the union jack flag isn't symettrical, so isn't the image on one of the wings technically back to front?

Maybe, but the Union Flag isn't triangular either

Worked on the cockpit control surfaces interface and munitions handling systems during my time at MB Faber in the late 90's.
Many visits to Warton and witnessed a spectacularly disastrous stability software roll-out and failed takeoff. Pilot survived but we all thought he was toast as his mule rolled down the runway in a ball of flames. Saw him fluttering back to earth 300m further back down the runway. Must have ejected as his jet rolled to starboard just before the critical eject angle.
Turned to my BAe Systems contact and said 'Think I'd better go now.'

Where is it based?
29 Sqn - Coningsby.
If you want to see it Steve, it'll be at the Old Buckenham Airshow in August. Not landing obviously, but should be the full display, cloud base permitting.
Asked my lad to have a word with the jockey to do a full rate climb over my house

Used to watch the display routine practice first thing in the morning as I drove through New York (get a map!) on my way to work in Tattershall. Long straight road so I used to get a good view. Stood outside at work and often saw a pair of Typhoons off to intercept something.

Shame I changed jobs - Spitfire day was always a fantastic sound!

Ben (No2 Son) was telling me a couple of weeks ago he was sat waiting to ground run a Typhoon and ATC told him he couldn't start up until the next wave took off as he didn't have fire cover. So from the cockpit he watched 8 Typhoons take off and basically go straight up, then a slight pause and a Spitfire followed. He reckoned after the Typhoons, the Spit looked like it was just hanging in the air with no forward momentum at all.

As an aside: When the Typhoon came into service ,Geoff Hoon was the Defence Secretary.
Always wondered if he decided to get his name recorded in history by calling the new jet the 'Type Hoon'. :D

I used to work on the F3 simulators at Coningsby, fantastic seeing and hearing these beasts take off and fly by. I have moved on now and don't see the typhoons unfortunately.

Could you ask them from me to STOP doing vertical climbs over my house. It's usually at least once a week and does get a little tiring. Downside of being about 2 minutes from the Wash; they love playing with their toys around here! :D

Couple more photos I've borrowed.
