Radio staying on?!?

All of a sudden, my stereo wants to stay on when I turn the ignition off. This has never happened before, it's as though the switched live is now a permanent live?

This is only a minor annoyance, but I'm wondering if there could be a deeper underlying issue?
 
Mines been doing the same. Music stops but the display stays lit up. Have to switch the ignition on and off to turn it off or just lock the car and it turns off after a few mins.

I think it might be something too do with the dice iPod adaptor I recently fitted.
 
Mine has done this before ; also the instrument lights staying on. No idea what it is though, and goes away after re-starting and stopping the car :?

Did the radio magic its own 12v supply?

I doubt that...

I just mentioned it to the dealer when it was in for a new clutch (itself :o ), they they would take a look... went to pick it up, and they said they'd ordered a new radio for it, come back in a couple of days to have it fitted.

This was pre-recession though so they may have been more willing back then....
 
They do have a permanent live already, this is for memory and to play if turned on without ignition. But usually turn off when ignition removed.
 
My guess is the ignition switch is worn. The electrical portion is an inexpensive, easy replacement that does not involve the lock.

anyway of testing this? will it show an error code and what is the part number?
 
You could take it out and check with a multimeter. You'd have to determine which contacts do what from the harness wire colours and the WDS. You may get a feel for a problem just by operating it with a screwdriver. If it feels loose and sloppy, it's worth replacing. (It turns out to cost about twice what I thought, it goes for 40 some quid :oops: ) I understand access is easy after removing the lower column cover.

No error codes would show up, it's not monitored. Part no. 61326901961
 
Thanks for the help, I've that for someone it was a fuse, another replace the radio, another tried the ignition switch but no definitive result.

There 2 fuses for the radio. 47(7.5a) and 50(I think is 15a). There was still a permanent live but the acc had not live.
 
Even with two fuses, you'd think with no acc. power it would go off, that's what happens when you remove the key. I suppose that's old school thinking. These things don't really turn off any more, (total speculation now) the amp gets a signal to kill the output stage to "turn off". The blown fuse disabled the possibility of the amp getting the signal, so it stays on.
