CDs sound perfect but radio signal isn't that strong any ideas?

Local radio is great. Radio 4 is dreadful and I have to crank up the volume.

All connections check out and I know it's the stubby so I've been thinking of going retro whippy unless here's a "superstubby" out there......?

You're prob better off without radio 4

Now I'm gonna have to correct you there Woots.
You need to listen at 6.30pm (my commute) to the comedy shows like "I'm sorry I haven't a clue", "Just a minute", "The Now show".

Or if you want to crash laughing you can listen to James Naughtie in the morning trying to say Jeremy Hunt. I actually had to pull over that morning as I couldn't even see.....

I fitted a BMW supplied stubby a few weeks ago - reception is a big improvement over the stubbies I have used before - but as reception generally throughout the UK varies so much it's difficult to be scientific / certain about this :!:

I've noticed radio crackle slightly since fitting stubby. Might swap it for a BMW one

Seeing as an ideal aerial should be a quarter of a wavelength, and fm radio for cars has a wavelength of 3m....obviously the oem aerial is less than a quarter of 3m...

So the wire that spirals up the oem aerial, does that essentially increase the aerial length?

Woots, Radio 4 is an "age" thing. One day you'll wake up and never want to listen to the likes of Radio One ever again.

You should also try to listen to the "Count Arthur Strong Radio Show" on R4 whenever that's on.

Thought the main fm antennae was behind the rear bumper ?
I've had no issues with reception since fitting my Peugeot stubby.....

Radio 4 and 2 are my usual choice. Only stopped listening to Radio 1 about 4 years ago.... When I (obviously) stopped recognising the meaning of cool...

Thought the main fm antennae was behind the rear bumper ?

There is an FM antennae in the bumper, but the rod aerial also serves for FM reception. Electronics in the boot switch between the two sources depending on which is currently delivering the strongest signal. So if you have a poorly performing stubby, the bumper antennae probably does become your "main" antennae.

ok ive bought the official bmw stubby aerial, do you think this will give me a better signal compared to the oem aerial ive got? thanks
