Radio Removal? Is there another way?

In a previous thread the Denison 100 seems to the one of the best options to connect my iphone to the car radio.

Does the radio have to be removed or is there another way. On my MX5 I went in behind via the glove box.

If anyone has any experience of this or any instructions to attach it would be appreciated.

I have an 08 Z4 with the basic BMW Business Single CD

Thanks all.....

You could try going in from underneath and using feel... Access panel beneath the air con controls, some people here have managed to do that. My hands are too big though :D

Radio removal is 2 seconds once the vent is out.

Vent takes about 2 minutes to remove if you use this technique :

Yes, removing the vent and radio is easy once you get the vent out. I too did as the photo above shows, however in my case even with the clips down, it was hard to pull the vent out, and there is nothing to pull on. I made the mistake of pulling on the louvers and they came apart. I was able to reassemble them but it was not that easy. After I got it out the first time I took the damn clips off and the vent stays in place without them just fine. I found the best way to get the vent out after the clips are down or out, is to put plastic tape on the edges of the vent and pry them out with a very thin small screwdriver. If you do this without the tape in place, you will mare the edges where the vent slides in and it will look bad. Maybe in some cases the vent just slides out, but mine was tight with the foam rubber seal in the back. My hands as other parts of my body are way too big to get into small places so I would pull the vent out. :)

Thats great thanks all

Are the clips just at the top or are they on the bottom of the vent too?

So how do I remove the radio once the vent is out, maybe once they are I can somehow reach into the back to attach the ipod adaptor.

I just then need to find a place to route the cable.

Just the two clips on the top, I used a dinner knife which I found better than a screwdriver.

Then just two screw to remove the radio. I put my ipod in the glove box, so there is a route, without drilling holes.

Srhutch - you carried a knife outside the house? Tsss, that is a hangable offence in the UK nowadays ... :D

Does Mrs Srhutch know about you using the silver for that? :D

She Does Now, just dont tell her about the towels I used to cover the dash when cutting a hole in it.

You cut a hole in your wife's towel so you didn't cut the dash?????

Man you are gonna be in deep $hit!!!!!

Right, how the hell do you remove the vents, i have followed the instructions/ comments posted and i cannot either see, or feel a clip when poking a screwdriver through ?....is the clip positioned on the top ?......which vent do you poke it though to access the clip? .......i feel like tearing the dashboard out at the minute...... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Do exactly what it shows in pvr's photo above and you will be able to pull the clips down. Yep - first time I did it I wanted to take an angle grinder to them but it's OK you will get there. You will also need to pull the vents forward as you release the clips.

As mentioned I found dinner knifes better as they are thinner for longer, so if not joy with screwdrivers give them ago
