Hi All,
This is my first post on this forum so please excuse me if this has already been asked and answered. I tried to look everywhere but could not find anything useful.
I have a 2004 BMW Z4 3.0. Towards the end of may, right around the start of winters here in Australia, my car started acting all weird. The music playback on the car started to cut in and out. It would be our for a quick second and then come back on. Sometimes its longer for a few seconds and then comes back on. Initially I thought it was just a bad disk. Switched over to FM radio and it was doing the same thing. '
Went online to do some research and a lot of forums suggested it must be the battery. So changed the battery recently to a brand new one. I can swear that for a day the problem went away. There was no cutting in and out on the radio anymore. But then a couple of days later, it started to happen again. I have an FM transmitter that shows the voltage of the car battery when plugged in. When the car is moving the voltage shows up as 14.3 or something. When engine not running, the voltage is coming at around 11.9 to 12.1 at times but normally shows around 11.8 or 11.9 (on the new battery well).
I have noticed a few patterns though. It feels like it does it more when I am accelerating and comes back on one I let go of the accelerator but is not always like it. Although does not do it at all when the car is stationary. Gets worse at higher speeds. I was doing a 100 on the highway the other day, and it was becoming unbearable so I had to turn the radio (head unit off).
Has anybody experienced something like this before? Did I not do something right when I was changing the battery (I did have to reset the clock but that was about it. I did not have to reset my power windows or the top as I had expected)?
I am not sure if it is the head unit or maybe the factory amp. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
