radio options

Hi guys/girls,

I've got a 53 plate 2.5 with the original bmw business radio in it, not a bad radio but would be nice to be able to listen to some music off my phone now and again. What are my options?? Is there a more modern bmw radio with Bluetooth that would fit in or do I need to go down the route of buying a blanking plate and fit a standard aftermarket jobbie in there??

You can keep the stock headunit and get an intravee or Dension which replace the cd changer.

Intravee connects to iPhone/iPad. Dension has that and other choices including USB.

You could also just get an aux interface if you don't already have one and use the headphone socket.
 
I was lucky that one of the previous owners of my car had installed an aux cable. I then purchased a kitsound myjack. This plugs into the aux cable and lets me connect my phone to use for music and phone calls. I took a gamble on it for a tenner when sainsburys have their instore electronic events and have to say i'm quite impressed.
I've fitted it down the side of the steering column and it picks up my voice fine for BT calls and cant really be seen. Its only the size of a biro lid.

When I got my Z, it came with a aux input, which always sounded a little thin and quiet compared to the CD player. I fitted a GROM IPD4 at last week and I'm very pleased with it. It'll connect to Apple and Android devices. The IPD4 doesn't have bluetooth, but the do have an add on to enable that. It was a good price and next day delivery if you order earlier enough in the day.

I though about aftermarket, but I couldn't find a face plate that I liked.

Thanks for the info guys, I quite fancy the thought of the Bluetooth connection. Think I will look futher into it!!

I've got one of these (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EFPYQ2I) plugged into my aux - it is tiny! Use it to stream Spotify from my phone, sound quality is more than acceptable. Only downside to the one I have, is the short 3-4 hour battery life of the device, but you can charge it while in use so it's not really an issue.
 
I installed a Dice Mediabridge in mine. Bluetooth, aux and USB. All except aux can be controlled via the stereo and wheel buttons (if you have them) uses the existing wiring for the cd changer.

I have a Kenwood BT53U that would fit with an adapter if you want it. Front & Rear USB and Bluetooth for calls along with streaming audio.
