Radio code

Hi this is my first post on here. I have a 2004 Z4 and it came with a aftermarket cd player but it looks horrible so i want to change it back to a standard set-up, so am going to buy a second hand cd player do i need a code for it to work? or is it just plug and play?

oh if anyone has a standard/original cd player for sale please let me know

I didn't think the OEM unit was coded, but I've been wrong before.

On some vehicles its coded to the anti-theft and ECU so the car 'knows' its got its original unit back, but not sure if that works when you're installing an OEM unit but from another car....
