Radio Channel buttons on M steering wheel inverted

Hi,

I was flicking through the radio stations earlier today and noticed that the radio channel selection buttons (the ones on the right.. not the volume buttons) on the M steering wheel work opposite to the direction of the menu. I.e. when I press the down arrow, the radio station would change from 6 > 5 > 4 > 3 > 2 > 1 rather than going down the list from 1 > 6; when I press the up button I move down the list. It's annoying as it's counter-intuitive. Anyone had this problem / know how to fix it?

Agree, but I can see the OPs point when you're looking at a list that goes from 1 at the top to 6 at the bottom. Haven't checked mine, so don't know if it is the same, but it sounds a bit Germanically logical to me, so there probably isn't anything actually wrong with it, it is just 'wrong'. I am assuming that the list is shown on a nav screen, not the head unit itself...

not as annoying as freeview - panasonic version - down on the remote increases the channel number in the on screen guide and reduces the channel number when station hopping. If I could lay hands on the engineer that chose to do that I would be shoving the remote somewhere remoter.

When you think of it as moving from 1 channel 'down' to another, i agree. Directionally, however, I it feels wrong.

Looking at the list, and pressing the down button, you'd expect it to move to the next station down in the list, but it moved up in the list and down to the next number (2 to 1). If/when you get a chance, would you mind taking a look at your car to see if its the same? Also I am indeed referring to the sat nav - I don't have a head unit in my car, just the sat nav.

Logical when only one line displayed in head unit, the original configuration before nav screens. They couldn't be bothered to switch to a logical layout for later nav screens. Like it's so hard to switch a couple wires.

If it really bothers you, it may be possible to switch the wires in a connector. Check the WDS to determine which pins to switch, you'll want to have the correct pin removal tool or be very clever with thin metal shims.

Can't see what all the fuss is about, all the BMW's I have since 2002 have had MFSW and all worked the same was as does the wife's Astra.

Thanks for confirming. I was concerned initially that it was a fault, but now I know its by design, so will live with it I suppose

Try inverting the keys on your keyboard so that the up arrow moves the cursor down, and vice versa, then you might see what the fuss it about :roll:. But honestly - it's probably me. I'm a child, and I've grown up in a world of screens, buttons, and multiple lines, where arrows and on-screen events are one

Tks for the suggestion. I'm going to leave it as is though, because it'll inevitably open up a new can of baby worms that'll have me wishing I hadn't fiddled with it 8).

The problem is in your head

A CD/mp3 is labelled in the following way

1 track 1
2 track 2
3 track 3
4 track 4
5 track 5
6 track 6
and so on....

Radio stations in the same way

So when you press the up key it goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (i.e. next track/station) ....... and reverse when pressing the down key (i.e. previous track/station).

All perfectly logical

Just dont look at your CD cover when pressing the buttons by the sound of it

I agree that switching the wiring in your head is easier. It's just that offering an alternate workable solution keeps the whining down.
