Radio and dashboard display backlight

Recently I noticed the backlight of the radio and dashboard (temperature display) going very dark or off.

This happens to both the dashboard lights and the radio at the same time. The speedometer and rev backlights are fine.

After a couple of seconds the lights come back on/go back to normal brightness. I don't think that the lights switch off completely as the display is still readable, although barely.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this or how to fix it?

dust in the light meter which controls the auto dimmer? I believe that it on the light control module with the light switches ...

Sorry to restart an old thread but I had exactly this issue last week and I wondered if you found out what the issue was in the end?

I've checked for dust on the dimmer sensor and given it a clean but not sure it's that.

It's only happened the once so far so may be a temporary glitch but I'm about to take the car on a road trip and wouldn't mind having it perfect before I go, in case it is anything to worry about.

Any help would be great - really puzzling me this one!

Used to happen on my E46's to. Not worth worrying about tbh.

I found the backlights flashing occasionally, charging lead for phone was covering the LCM sensor.
