Radio (6 speaker) issue...

When I bought my car the radio didn't work. The display all worked etc, but no sound. The dealer said they would fix it but were waiting on a part (still waiting now)

I also had that weird 'click click' noise in the car, that sounded like speakers... very feint.

Anyway, I took it out last night (the right way, upon inspection you can see attempts to access with a screwdriver prying the radio :headbang: ) and upon being half removed from the aperture I tried turning it on, and it was crackling on and off, seeming to work, but when I tapped it or generated an earth it went a bit funky with feedback etc...
So I unplugged it fully, and noticed the feint "tick tick" noise had gone... so the radio it was.

I plugged it back in and it still seemed to react oddly to me touching it or pressing the front panel etc... I noticed that when fitted the front was tipped back a bit, so fitted some material to support the radio back (so it wasn't all twisting through the front panel support screws)

Upon plugging it back in it now seems to be perfect, no longer having issue with me pressing the front panel edges and just works perfectly.

So, now I'm wondering, was this a plug earthing issue (just needed wiggling about a bit), or maybe a loose connection on the faceplate under stress from the radio being supported badly (there was a rubber raiser in the radio bay floor, but only at one side and near the front leaving the back hanging in the aperture)...?

Just curious now because the dealer is getting a part, so will ring them tomorrow to find out what (see if they actually know what is wrong)... may well be a new radio in it for me :) (that said, the current one may still be dodgy)

Just an FYi/curiosity post... not up on my hifi/car audio stuff, so wondering it it was an earthing issue?!

Thanks

Dave

I have a spare '04 radio if you need it by the way, so if the dealer offers you anything else ...

I'll just have to see how it goes, but thank you.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality by the way. I'm sure Hifi or Carver are better of course, making 6 speakers look a bit average, but in isolation they are not really bad at all for what I want from a hifi :)

Glad it has the multichanger though... will also have to look into one of these dice thingies.

Stay well clear of the Dice thingies as they are not worth the money ...
