Radiator Water Hose Disconnected. Up in smoke

Hi,

My z4 overheated yesterday, hot day and stuck in traffic for too long on idle, smoke ended up coming out the bonnet, turned off the engine fairly quickly, pulled up and turns out the radiator water hose was totally disconnected. I’m not sure is this is classified as the upper or lower hose part?

I’m not the most technical when it comes to the engine and parts, does this look like the correct part?…

And any advise on how to fit it myself (if possible)? I had a look through other threads but the images were not loading and unsure as to what part of the hose this is from a technical perspective..

This bit of the forum is fine.

I can't tell from looking but is there a boss that has broken off? Doesn't look there's anything for a hose to attach back to.

Good point.

I’m ordering the radiator hose but it doesn’t look like it comes with extra attachments for that. Not even sure what I’d search for..

Looks like the stub the hose connects to has broken suggest you check out Realoem parts site using last seven letters and numbers of your Vin number to id the correct hose and the radiator if the stub has broken

By stub it seems like it’s not just an attachment but the entire thing, from the area circled it seems like the damaged hose has a part missing, compared to the new part I’ve ordered. Looks like the extra thickness on the other side would be enough to seal it more securely?

Small image.. but the (right hand) end looks thicker like it would solve the problem of securely fitting back on compared to the damaged version.

Hang on, I can see the problem. The boss on the left hand end of the pipe has broken off from the pipe and is still screwed into the block/housing. Remove that and the new one will fit in place. I think we're struggling to work out what it is as it's obviously not a radiator hose and we don't know which engine you've got.

Ah yes, I can see what you mean now. It’s an E85 2.0i sport, petrol, 150 BHP, 1995 cc, 4 cylinder

Thanks, looks like that solves it. Hopefully my DIY job with this new part does the job.

Is it one of these hoses?

Looks like number 7 but that o-ring looks concerning, as I haven’t ordered that, hopefully not an issue.

If it is that hose then replace the O ring its probably in need of a new one given the age of the car. Best do it now rather than having to do it all again when it leaks.

The full BMW assembly (#1 in the diagram) includes the O ring so I'd expect the part you've ordered will come with it. Generally any complicated pieces like that include the O ring.

Fingers crossed the ordered part comes with it then, as shipping fee on these items is £8+, so can’t really be ordering again for something so small which will come with a hefty shipping fee.

Thanks for the help and advise.
