Radiator Outlet Temp Sensor

Having managed to run over a bit of fallen tree, pretty much distroying the front undertray, it looks like I might have also managed to damage to sensor in the bottom hose. The weird issue I've got is it looks like half the senor and all the wiring is missing, as photo.
The sensor is not leaking and there are no warning lights on, but I am getting an error code for the sensor (and a live reading of -48 degrees!).
So my question is what does the electrical connect look like and were do the wires go?

The sensor just clips in. You have the sensor there still, minus the electronic core.

I don't know which engine you've got, but for the N52, it looks like this:

13621433077

Part number 5: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DU52-EUR-09-2006-E86-BMW-Z4_30si&diagId=17_0249

The connector looks like this (part number 7):

12521427615

On the N52, the wiring comes from the arch liner direction somewhere, IIRC.

Luckily it looks like the sensor has failed well and not spilt any coolant

The wiring for the coolant sensor is situated on the loom that runs on the offside- it may be worth getting the car up in the air to see if it’s ripped wires out or they are still there

Thanks both. Yes its an N52.
I have had a look underneath & couldn't see any ripped wires which is what is so odd.
Think I will take out the washer bottle as this should improve what I can see from above.

Well I've found it, I had assumed it was an external temperature sensor as it had managed to split in two leaving the outer part in the rad hose but the inner probe still attched to the wiring and tangled up with the fog light wiring.
Sorry no picture as I pushed it back in to see if it still worked (it doesn't) and when I tried to pull it off the whole unit came out, so quickly pushed it back in until I get a new one.

New sender fitted all all now working.
This is what happened to the orginal, lefthand bit stayed in the radiator hose and the righthand bit was still attached to the wiring and tangled up with the foglight wires.sensor.jpg
