Hi, I have a 2006 2.0 Z4. I recently noticed that my Air conditioning wasn't working. It has no problem getting hot, but I will not blow ice cold air. I thought it neded to be re-gassed, in the meantime I hooked the car up to my friends diagnostic laptop. It came back with a present fault, the electric fan was open circuit. I performed a quick test of voltages and I had 12Volts at the connector across the red and black terminals to the fan. So I thought it was a done deal, I have sourced another fan, fitted it and again was not coming on (I appreciate this could also be faulty) when I turned on the snowflake button on the dash. I won't be able to hook it up to the diagnostic laptop for another 2 weeks and I want to make a long journey this weekend. I am worried about the car overheating although I have never witnessed the temp ever going higher than operating temp. However I am aware that this fan is responsible for maintaining a constant engine temp.
Is there any way I can check the fan. I thought about putting 12 volts across the fan, would this cause the fan to operate or is the green wire in control of whether the fan turns on even if there is 12 volts present?
Your help is appreciated.
