Hello,
Does anyone still have access to or know where I can find the details to using the mirror power to run a radar detector ?? Hope so. Thanks.

Ok, how about this one... Anyone know where I can find the details on what the electircal feeds are to the mirror ?? Goals are to split them out and supply power to a radar detector. Thanks.

tec243, I can't help you about using mirror power for your radar detector. I had my previous Zed hard wired for the Radar Detector and that was done by my BMW dealer. I believe they took the power from the circuit for the map lights above the rear view mirror. I know there are a few individuals on the Board that have done that them self. Is there a reason why you want to use the circuit for the power mirror?

Please be advised, for 27 years I worked with those fellows who hand out the greetings on the side of the road to drivers. :P I have had many tell me that when they approached the car their intention was to just give them a warning. When they spotted the radar detector, it was always a maximum ticket. :x So a word to the wise, if you are going to use one. Look for a place you can power it and have it out of sight. :)

I'm a private attorney appointed as a Special Prosecutor and prosecutes DUIs. From the number of law enforcement officials I've spoken to, what Wazzzzman said is correct. That is, if they see a radar detector visible, they will ticket the offender for speeding even if they were only going to give the driver a warning. With that said, I don't have mine wired and I don't even use the power cord to the cigarette lighter. I'm fine with having to replace the 2 AAA batteries every few months.

Thanks all, for the comments. I saw a how-to on the z4um and it was wired from the mirror so hadn't thought of any other options beyond that. The battery method may be the way to go for the little I would use it.

I'm aware of the attitude towards redar detectors. I've been saved so many times and way, way ahead but that's not the point. I don't drive like a maniac. And, to belabor this further, I stash the works as soon as Johnny Law has chosen to put a dent in my wallet which I think last happened in, hmm..., must've been back in the 80's. I know, more than you wanted to know. Out.
