I'm looking for recommendations for a good all round detector that does Nav too. Looked at Road Angel and Snooper all in 1's and was wondering if these units actually 'detect' or rely on a database of sorts for camera positions? Happy to bin the all-in-1 idea for better detection if that's the way to go i.e. is a radar detector just that and the GPS units are for camera positions and don't detect mobile units, hand held’s etc?

Daft questions probably, I used to own a Snooper for my MR2 MK2 Turbo which simply went nuts half the time but saved my bacon more than once, old technology now and hopefully detection is much better.

Also, best position for mount, hide from view (?), hardwire?

Thx.

I have a Road Angel 9000 which relies on a database of saftey camera sites. hence it alerts you to sites, not just cameras, and relies on a subscription to keep this up to date. As for it's sat nav, I found the display and directions not as good as a Tom Tom, but quite adequate, as long as you knew where you were going

I ran a couple of Road Angel units for a few years, the database is GPS based and it had all the fixed and mobile locations but you never knew if the mobile location was actually "live" or not until you got close. No detection on hand held units. I found the Road Angel a bit buggy TBH.

I think maybe Snooper is the best one now.

Unofficial site with good prices http://www.snooper.co.uk

Official site http://www.snooperuk.com/

These guys let you trade in your old unit, sometimes better to sell it on Ebay anyway, but as least it's a choice http://www.naonline.co.uk/
