Did they not have the brakes off an Escort Van? Or was that on the 1.4?
Racing puma's had a rear disc conversion from a 2.0 focus and the fronts were an Alcon 4 pot set up (think they were used on porches as well) but with no dirt seales. They can pul 1.1G in the puma. Along with the brakes, they had a wider track, eibach coil overs, full janspeed exhaust (which popped and bangs like crazy on over run) more aggressive cams with advanced timing, rev limiter raised to 7250rpm, shot penned gearbox with the ratios from the 1.4 puma and an S1600 based inlet manifold.
Officially 0-62 was done in 7.9 but I am confident mine was more like 7 dead - I read somewhere that if a manufacturer advertises performance as quicker than they are they can get in a bit of bother, with them all being hand finished, I think Ford took the conservative approach.
Interior saw Sparco seats as standard and a full retrim in the bright blue Alcantara.
It was without doubt the best handling car I have driven - my mum has had a standard 1.7 since new in 2000 and there is NO comparison between the FRP and standard car
I WILL own one again one day!
