RAC Warranty - Low Down & Experiance ?

Folks,

Anybody have the RAC warranty ? Im going to view a car this Friday , its british and known to be a bit unreliable !

How good are these warranties, I guess its similar to the Tesco warranties a few folks on here have gone with ?
Can anybody share experience, good or bad, with me to decide if I need it as part of the asking price or i should be looking at alternatives
BTW its £950 approx for the year on the car in question.

more info : car would fall into the 'Plan B' bracket which is :
"We will pay for specific replacement parts and labour should your

I don't have *personal* experience on the subject, but I do know that the RAC/AA/<insert name here> warranties have a very bad rep. Basically the vast majority of claims seem to be put down as 'wear and tear' or simply 'not covered'. If you do get money out of them, it's rarely enough to cover the actual repairs or parts.

To AA members, you can add a package that will pay for up to £500 for repairs if you breakdown on the road and call the AA out: http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/. This is meant to be *very* good. Of course it only applies if you actually break down and the AA attend.

If you're looking at a BMW - get the BMW extended warranty. Similar cost, but it'll cover everything but wear & tear.

I have a 12 month RAC warranty on a peugeot , My son also has a RAC warranty on his Z3, the 3 times we have needed it so far, they would not cover the work.
Mine, wishbone ball joint worn....not covered.
Front wheel bearing worn..... not covered
My son Airbag ECU fault..... not covered.

Yes it says they are covered for failure in the policy, but only for complete mechanical failure. e.g the bearing is worn and rumbling, it is not collapsed....ie not failed
the ball joint is worn, it is not collapsed...ie not failed
Airbag ECU not covered cos it is not the main ECU.....!!!
sudden failure is rare,

Things on older vehicles wear and cause problems before they collapse as a rule. If it get to the collapsed stage , you must have driven not noticing the signs
Basically it is worthless piece of paper,
We did it all ourselves, there is no way I would take the car back to the original dealer for the work to put money in his pocket after he gave me a warranty that is sh*te....
If you are offered one of these, turn it down and ask for a discount instead......

and as for £950 you would have to be mad, I wouldn't give £20 for it.. keep the money and use it if you need a repair, because you can almost guarantee that the RAC won't pay for it.
