Just done a HPI check via the RAC for the Z4MR i'm intending to be buying at the weekend and its come back with 2 issues (well 1 really..);

1. Outstanding finance - Expecting this on the HPI, this has been cleared today though and i have a confirmation fax from BMW confirming this and the agreement number matches.....this is fine and not a problem, the HPI database hasnt been updated yet.

2. Mileage - car has done approx 12600 on the odometer and the service book is stamped at 11xxx for the oil service by BMW main dealer in mid Jan 09, this matches with the RAC mileage report and it indicates the mileage was supplied by manufacturer. However there are 2 mileages which have come from "NMR" which i assume is the National Mileage Register which are both listed as 20,000 exactly and recorded on the 16th Feb 09 and 17th Feb 09.
Now its flagging up a problem cus i entered the odometer mileage of 12600!!! :roll:

Anyone had a similar problem? Sounds like a system problem or something hasnt been registered correctly on the NMR. :headbang:

Why is nothing straight forward! :?

Only thing I can think of is did the car have a private plate?

Reason I ask is that sometimes when I get a insurance quote using my reg it comes up with a car I sold four years ago, and it wasnt even my last car.

Nope, no private plate. He said he has one but has never put it on the car.

It says it was recorded by NMR so i can only guess speaking to HPI will find out where the 2 mileage inputs came from exactly....if they even know. :? What a load of tosh.

I had this when buying my car.

NMR suck big time. It can be a trader ringing up or something equally stupid, which is why its a nice round figure.

I had 2 exact 40k figure wither side of an MOT and a service which didnt make sense.

Just got to send them in all the documents from around that time and they will get rid of the error off the system for you.

I havent got round to doing this but I explained how it had had a service and MOT around the same time of the NMR figures and they told me to photocopy the MOT and service booklet and sent it in so they can erase the error off their system.

Thanks.

Well its 2 yrs old so no MOT and just the running in service and 1st oil service has been done and stamped up in the book.
I cant believe they can add mileages just from someone ringing up to get a HPI done?! sounds like a rough average mileage for a 2yr old car has been used maybe.

So you reckon the seller may have asked for a trade in or just selling it back to the garage for the 2 dates in Feb 09 (ie 4 weeks ago)?

Hmm what a crock of sh!t.

Just re-run the HPI check on RAC (its free for 30 days once you've paid £10) and its now showing;

The last one is MY HPI check which i did a few hours ago!
So if anyone has done a HPI check it uses the mileage they put in even if its completely wrong and random value? Unbelieveable tbh and could put buyers off cars.

Interesting.

My cousin decided against buying a car (an older one to be fair) because of the exact reason you are talking of here - the NMR recording.

That is pretty disgraceful and surely would look dodgy to a prospective buyer.

Totally unacceptable.

Spoke to NMR this morning and although they agree it looks wrong they said they cant disclose who input the data except to say it was a dealer and not BMW!
I think the seller has taken it somewhere with the intention that the dealer buys it off him and hence they've done a HPI check and entered a nominal mileage for a 2yr old car not knowing what effect entering a mileage does to the NMR! Trying to get in touch with the seller to sort this out but NMR said there shouldnt be a problem getting the 20k mileages removed.

Spoke to the owner and he has no idea where it has come from, he did start advertising it around the mid Feb dates though so looks like someone could of run a HPI and put in 20k for the mileage.....he's going to phone NMR to try and get it sorted out.
This is one reason why blanking your reg plates out is a good idea!! :headbang:

Companys that have a unlimted subcricpsion to HPI checks per month, will do checks on any body ie customers, collegues, buisness partners, or just genrally out of intrest to see if peoples cars are on finance and how much they owe! And in these case's obviously they will be guessing the mileage.

Yeah i had the exact same problem on my new (ish) purchase. Only had 1k mile son it after a year, but the NMR said 2 thousand and something.

Not that much of a desrepancy but it still made me wonder when i bought it.

I think as long as you ahve the service history and stamps a buyer will most likely be happy.

Unless the NMR was to say youve done 100k miles that is! :roll:

Well the owner has played merry hell with the NMR and once he has faxed them the V5 and service book they will remove the spurious 20k readings. :thumbsup:
NMR = farce
Its not a bad idea its just how its implemented. Allowing anybody to enter a mileage on your car and then the NMR turn round and say they cant tell you who has done it is just plain rubbish.
It should work by mileages from MOT, main dealer services and V5's when sold being registered only, then its more official and controlled better from an owners perspective.

That does seem very dumb. I did a few HPI checks (cheap ones) when looking at a few cars and put in guessed mileages as I didn't have the details there and then.

I even did the same on my own :rofl:

Hey ho, I'll use MOT's and service book as proof of mileage, rather than some free for all database!
