Had an extended test drive a couple of days ago, sound from the V10 fantastic and apart from the looks there it ends, Rtronic box terrible, it jerk's/shudders every time it changes gear and that was only driving it normally, put your foot down and it was worse still! not a very relaxing drive :o our DCT boxes are silky smooth.

On a car with manual box discount's are good though, only £5K more than my 991, but this model has only circa 2 years left so not for me.

it's also a bit dated=has an ignition 'key', no electrical handbrake, 6 gears only, 150kg heavier than a 991

Not sure why any of that matters in the slightest but fair enough :)

The V8 seems to make a lot of sense, bargains to be had now the V10 is around

You have to try it with the manual open gate gear box...it's f**king cool, I've tried the Gallardo with the paddleshift which I guess is a similar box and had the same non-plussed reaction. Try the manual and it's a whole different ball game. I've only tried the R8/v8 but that was plenty fun enough!

Yes it's the same box, you'd have thought Audi could have made a better job with the gearchanges :o

i love both the gallardo and R8 Paddle shifts - i never felt there was an issue?.......i drove a manual Murcielago once and it was terrible. And this is coming from somebody who enjoys a good old fashioned manual gearbox !

Haha you think it's going to look dated (going by your 2 year comment), but you're willing to buy a 911, which frankly hasn't changed in looks much since the 996 came out.

Were you changing the gears manually on the V10?

I was changing them manually and yes it can be a bit fierce but I loved that. it is a V10 beast after all !

and if anybody wants a discount on an R8 (or any other Audi for that matter) my brother is sales controller for Audi, who may be able to assist.

the lack of a start button wouldn't put me off any car? bit of a gimmick anyway.

Total curve ball option, but the review of a latest version of the Maserati coupe in evo magazine is quite favourable. Same price ball park...

Looks amazing IMO and bet it sounds the part too. Unsure I'd be happy sinking £100k or so into a Maserati though!

I'd buy a 997GT3 Gen 2 now (or GT3RS Gen 2 if you're feeling extrovert) rather than wait for the new model. Best 911 to drive and rarer than rocking horse you know what. They also drop in price far less than the 'normal' 911's or 911s's even when the new series has come out. Look at the prices of 996 GT3's as evidence.
