Hi everyone,

I hope you have enjoyed some great drives over the summer :driving:

Last week I was seeing family in Staffordshire and Cheshire and had an evening to myself so did a ~3 hour trip around the Pennines and surrounding countryside, where there are lots of great roads.

The R8 is still pretty new to me and so I was taking things reasonably calmly, keeping traction control on. None the less, following some recent rainfall it did lose traction a little on one occasion (tight, second-hander) but quickly caught itself. Unsurprisingly, it was great fun throughout and the sound was incredible. The next morning I needed to get back down south and so started at 4am and took the country roads, rather than being sat on the motorway. That was also incredible with some great roads. The A529 is particularly fun.

Here are my pics from around Snake's Pass. I didn't have my DSLR but smartphones these days can do a reasonable job:

Always good to see a car out on the roads & clearly being enjoyed :driving: not my cup of tea the R8 but i enjoyed your pics & dare say would have enjoyed the noise it made at 4am ripping down those roads

Thank you mr wilks, I am glad you enjoyed the pics.

Lovely 911 by the way

I used to not be a fan of 911s. I was obsessed with Ferrari's as a kid. However, 911s have been growing on me more and more over the years and I really like the 991 in particular. The R8 still appeals to me more vs. the Carreras, mainly due to the engine, though I think I would probably take a GT3 over the R8 (if budget wasn't an issue). I'll have to drive a 911 some day and see what I think.

I have and am driving my Z4MR. At least, until anyone is interested in buying it!

Snake pass and woodhead pass are both great drives although I haven’t had chance to do them in the Zed yet

Cool pictures. 8)

The words caught it self, seem totally against the ethos of fun driving.

They sound better that, I stuck it in a wall though.

Great cars these - would love one myself.

I was lucky enough to go to the original launch in 2007 and the V10 launch in 2009 in Germany - worked for Audi at the time.
