R108 refurb cost

Hi all

I have just got a cheap 2.5 z4 with R108 wheels that need refurbing.

I want to to have a broken down quality refurb with the outer rim in painted silver rather than the polished finish.

Can anyone recommend a company and an expected price for four, I'm based near Cambridge

Thanks
David

Yes, Welcome to the forum.

I've seen a receipt for a 'proper' refurb on a set of 108's at £693.00...
However, According to a forum member here, there seems to be a place in Birmingham (City Powder Coaters) who will do them at £20/wheel, but you will have to get them there and pre-split them yourself. (Paisley Freight Courier for 4x18" rims is £30). Therefore if you courier them there and back you're looking at £30+£80+VAT+£30 therefore about £160.

....Now get your photos up !!! :poke:

My thoughts on the 108's, having had them (in need of a refurb) on my car when purchased are;

Like it or not, and however "well" the are done, once you fit the bolts, and break the powder coat/paint, you WILL get corrosion later down the line. Hence my removing and replacing with 107's, which I love :)

i got quoted 360 for split down and paint
frears wheels lincolnshire

BUT......... im on the lookout for some other wheels, cant decide which though !!!

Had all these done a place in Birmingham i keep mentioning a place called city powder coaters. Full strip down and reapir. It cost £20 per wheel if the tyres are already off. £30 per wheel if tyres are on and £40 per wheel if you drop the car off and collect next day. I've always had the £20 deal. The do those mad colours too bronze, candy red & blue etc thats 330 per wheel.

not the best pics as off my old phone but are perfect like new when done

Wow have to say for the money that seems fantastic value.
I'm currently planning to take the winter to get the car ready for next spring.

I'm only about 1.5 hrs from Birmingham so will definitely consider these guys.
Thanks for the photos.

Do they split the rims on the R108,s ?

I just paid £250 for full chemical strip and refurb (4 x 17") in Billericay, Essex but the place in Birmingham looks very good value.

Whats the best method of sending? I was thinking small pallet, not going to be even close to 0.5meters height (so I'm sure it's classed as a quarter pallet). And this will probably fit up to a set of 19" wheels nicely on there. But price? Looking at about £45 including VAT? Anyone know a cheaper courier?

Primo Alloys and Wheel Works will do £200 for a set of 18" bare alloys, so just wondering if its worth the hassle of shipping to Bham?

goldbcfc how have you found the finish? Like I have some areas that have kerbing and corrosion. I assume that for best results you need to prep them a bit first? I saw on the website that there will still be blemishes etc. I know it kind of goes without saying as they aren't new alloys. But just as you've clearly done quite a few sets, what's the comparison before and after? Have you done any alloys that were 'slightly worse for the wear'? How did they come out?

Cheers mate!

They strip and repair the wheels its not some delboy setup its a proper powdercoaters if their curbed they will look like new again when finished. I've just bought new alloys on saturday so will take my old 108's here to refurb before i sell on if i dont sell them as they are. Get some pics up soon.

HI

As i am working on the car with a planned date on the road of April , i haven't actually got round to having them done yet.

Really looking to see some pictures from Goldbcfc though , which will confirm i will definitely be taking them their.

Will keep you updated

Sounds good! Look forward to pics... Hopefully you go down the refurb route! If you can before and after? Thanks mate!
