Steve Jobs
1955-2011

One of the most influential men of the modern world, Steve Jobs, RIP.

To quote Steve Job's 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, where he addressed his mortality. An inspiring speech, excerpt from Observer.com.

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Apple left this tribute on their website

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

Truly a sad day.

"Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.
He transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.
The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented" Obama

A truly great man, who inspired many.

A tragic loss. I hope Apple can continue in a way that would make Steve proud....

RIP Steve

sorry but he's just another bloke to me, no better and no worse than any other, sorry he as died but sorry for every other person who as also died recently

To some people he is just another bloke but to the few who realise what amazing products he has been involved with he is a god!

+1, yes he was an innovater but there's been some seriously over the top comparisons made in the press regarding him.

Anyway, I've heard he's not dead: it's just the nurses holding him the wrong way...

Everyone should listen to his Stanford speech...there is more to his story than many people appear to know.

RIP Steve

And I'm happy to record that this message...

He was a visionary....hate to say it but Apple will rot without him...RIP Steve....

If it does that will reveal a great flaw in Steve. If the success of a company in a position such as Apple is, is down to one man, that would be rather tragic. Personally I doubt that will be the case but we will never know for sure. If things go wrong for APple people might blame that as the reason but I think the 'Apple way' has rubbed off onto other companies who will grow more competitive with or without Steve around at Apple. I don't think Steve would have worked at Apple, knowing of his possible fate, and working in a manner where APple cannot continue as successfully if he died.

Some products were innotative but I didn't go much for the Apple culture myself. A great marketing machine and Steve the person was part of that so maybe some people would stop buying products because he's not part of the image anymore. The company has a trendy image, and naturally people want to try somethinig different too (ie, not Windows). I have looked at Apple machines in the past but always found better value, and compatibility elsewhere. As for phones, never had one - I need a decent battery life and not a small device to build my life around (as many seem to :) )

Anyway, it's sad he died as it is for anyone else who dies young/relatively young but that's life.

Read some less than positive things about him in the paper. Nightmare boss apparently, and not such a nice guy.

And we all know that everything printed the papers is true......

Food for thought though :(
