In reference to the above post :

After looking at the 4 plus programme, it only applies to E39, E46 and E53 models, you may be able to wangle it on the E85 Z4 and E38 7s as well....

Thanks, that really useful, as are all the replies.

Just rung a couple of Independents:

AMC London (Tooting) - £570
Gilberts (Ealing) - £550
Bmer Services - an almost unbelievable £249

All include VAT and are supposedly as per BMW spec.

Car's a 2007 (over 4 years old) with no warranty - I'm certainly tempted with those prices but just what is the value of the BMW stealer's stamp???

Forza West in Chepstow charge £385 with tappet adjustment and £270 without; so that £250 doesn't seem too far off.

if you want to get ripped by a main agent for the sake of a stamp thats your choice, I would say go with an Independent so long as they have a good reputation. Most people who post on this site are not all that impressed with Stealers.

Truth. But unfortunately some of us have/had to keep up with the main dealer servicing to satisfy the terms of the warranty.

I agree it's a bit silly for the dealership stamp, but like it or not, buyers at this price point will expect servicing to have been carried out at a dealer the majority of the time.

Once they dip below £10,000 in value, I think that's when it's worth thinking of using Indies.

The Indy that use is fantastic, he is an absolute professional, always uses original parts and is as straight as a dye, plus half the main dealer hourly rates, if anyone lives around Nottingham send me a pm and I will let you have his details, he also drives an E46 M3

With any Indy service, a good one will itemise the work they have done & the parts + make they have used so agree with the sub 10k comment, new motors need main BMW otherwise will loose sig value, unless ur gonna keep it forever
