Took me a minute to get my head round it and work it out:

You see a shirt for £97, you can't afford it so u borrow £50 from your mum and £50 from your dad which equals £100.
You buy the shirt and get £3 change so you give your dad £1 and your mum £1 back and you keep the other £1.
So now you owe your mum £49 and dad £49.
49+49 =98 + your £1 = 99. Where's the missing £1?

I bought the shirt from Birmingham and some scrote 'taxed' me for a quid on the train home!

You never borrowed £100, you borrowed £98 ...

Yeah. You borrowed £100, and with the change paid back £2, so your debt was only £98.

You spent £97 on the sh1t...sorry, shirt and you had the remaining £1.

I see numbers and my brain shuts down.

You see a pair of shoes in exchange for 97 old pairs of shoes. You haven't got 97 old pairs of shoes, so you borrow 50 pairs from your mum and 50 pairs from your dad which equals 100 pairs of shoes.
You exchange the shoes, meaning you have 3 pairs left over. So you give your dad 1 pair and your mum 1 pair back and you keep the other pair.
So now you owe your mum 49 pairs and dad 49 pairs.
49 pairs of shoes +49 pairs of shoes =98 pairs of shoes + your 1 pair of shoes = 99 pairs of shoes. Where's the missing pair?

Clear now?

Still a lot of numbers though and Ruby's dad doesn't have 50 pairs of shoes :poke:

Not to mentioned her mum and dad have the same shoe size as well :D

Very good! I like to think I'm pretty good at maths but that had me confused for a couple of mins.

How about:

You see a pair of socks in exchange for 97 'used' pairs of socks. You haven't got 97 'used' pairs of socks, so you borrow 50 pairs from your mum and 50 pairs from your dad which equals 100 pairs of socks.
You exchange the socks, meaning you have 3 pairs left over. So you give your dad 1 pair and your mum 1 pair back and you keep the other pair.

Are we talking about new socks, or stiff socks? Its very important to know!
