I have collected my spring/strut from a mate who works at mini meaning i got a massive discount. However he filled me with doubt when he said 'i hope its the correct one'..............im now getting concerned as its going to be installed this friday whilst visting parents 100 miles away, so it needs to be the correct part.

The part i have in front of me is 31316761895.

i have checked on real oem using this link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=31_0646&hg=31&fg=10

i need the drivers side strut, but the real oem site says 'left front' ! is that the drivers side????

i have also had the wheel off the drivers side of the car to check but the label was destroyed a long time ago, so cannot check the numbers.

help would be appreciated because if its wrong i need to change it tomorrow to make sure i have it for thursday before i leave for the weekend.

thanks Mike.

i suppose its how they refer to left & right, why cant they use off side, near side. at least then there is no confusion.

BMW's reference is from the driver's viewpoint, so left is always left & right is always right.
If they were to change to nearside & offside, then the sides would be reversed when in a country driving on the right hand side of the road.

Maybe port & starboard would help :P

oh bollocks. as i suspected, i have the incorrect side even though i said about 5 times its the drivers side i needed.

why is nothing simple

Oh dear - looks like Mr cock up has come a knockin' at your door. He generally delivers the wrong parts.
Worst is his mate Mr F*ck up who come s a knockin' while your doing the work and he shears bolts, makes scredrives slip on paint and so on.

Not very helpful tonight

no sweat. i will get this changed a-sap. its all under control.

Chris, i need it changing as its been leaking and is completely shot, the other side is fine though?.

Umm normally BMW ones are pretty good. Dont think ive ever heard of one completely failing actually, well until now  Why dont you get a second hand one? I know it defeats the object sometimes, but most Z's have low mileage anyway.

true, but i got a good saving using my mate, £160 instead of 220. he can get parts in 24 hours so i will get this one swapped.

I was expecting like £400 knowing BMW, so not too bad! Used one would cost you £50 so no brainer really!

Have you got spring clamps then, or ding it on the car?

a friend of a friend is doing it for me. As for the price, bmw charge £218.01 per side for the struts.
