Quick Jack car lift for E85

Hi!

I’m about to pull the trigger and buy a QuickJack lift to my garage. A shorter base models (BL-3500SLX or BL-5000SLX) would be an obvious choice for the Zed. I have, however, some longer wheelbase cars in my fleet too, which will require the extended model BL-5000EXT. Looking at the dimensions I believe that the EXT will fit between the Z4 wheels even when lifted up. Just want to confirm before buying... Has anyone on the forum the BL-5000EXT and E85/6 combo?

DMike

I have the 5000slx (70" frame) and it fits perfect with our cars, you can always get the adapter that extends your jack point distances for longer wheel bases (adds 6"). I honestly can't remember now if when I measured the distance of the 5000ext (75" frame) under the car if the ext would clear, but I'd start there if you're second guessing and didn't want to get the extenders.

There a measurement table on their website where you can use measurements like jacking point distance, tyre distance etc to determine which model(s) will work.

Answering my own question...

Thanks for your replies and hints. The add on extensions heightening the lift 4 cm was a potential problem with one of my other cars. After remeasuring and fabricating a cardboard 5000EXT mockup the result still was a definite maybe. Took the risk and ordered the extended model. I can now confirm it will fit between the E85 wheels fine - but the position of the trays for the rubber blocks was a close call. One of the frame axles traversing the other tray limits placement of the blocks — something the QJ measurement tables do not take to account. The lift frames have to be labels facing the rear of the zed, next to the rear wheels.

Quality-wise they seem ok but some minor annoyances though: Made in China, thick paint filling bleeding screws so that no allen key fits; had to use pliers. Compressor assembly has no frame, leaving the hydraulic fluid reservoir mechanically susceptible. Frame handles were missing but QJ Netherlands promised to send them afterwards. They’re heavy to move around but can be nicely stored standing against a wall. Space under vehicle is decent, around 47 cm.

I would love a decent little lift system but space and the cost always put me off. The QJ looks OK but seemed a lot of money for something that only lifts to 47cm. Also it will be interesting to see how robust it is? I looked at a used one a while ago which had not seen a lot of use but wasn't convinced that it was likely to last so didn't bother. Maybe keep us updated if you don't mind.

Things look shiny underneath, very clean

Thanks for the compliments. The weldings look ok but I’ll use some axle stands as backup when crawling the car. Though they will be mostly used for winter/summer wheel changes and some OCD detailing.

Look great and something I may get at the end of the year. I suppose that space should give enough space for general stuff .

For lower cars if you first place the car on ramps you can use the SUV/truck adapters to get just shy of 2 feet max lift height for the extra you might want. I did my full super sprint exhaust with it on the first lock point small lift blocks not using a creeper on the lowest possible position the car can be in, so with the SUV adapters lifting to the highest lock point besides dropping a trans not sure you need to go any higher. It gives plent of room to do any diff/rear end work and for garages with lower ceilings you're not going to be able to have much more room if an auto door opener is overhead. When I did measuring for max height in the garage with the SUV adapters the top of the car only has 4 inches till it hits the auto door opener. And this is fantastic if you want it for taking to track day with the 12v power unit to run off a car battery. I can honestly say from use it's saved me a lot of time and money with the amount I've used it in 8 months having it. First time using it told the wife wish I got it sooner. Brake work/bleeding tire rotations go super quick now. And I'm loving raising the car all at once instead of which ever full lift method you use to get all 4 corners on axle stands. For me I looked at a lot of low/mid rise lifts and this was the only one I could get the lowest on besides a pit style in ground lift. I don't have room for a 2-4 post lift and with the small blocks it just clears the jack pads. Pending how lowered you might be you'd have issues on some other low/mid rise or scissor lifts that aren't flush in ground lifts, least what I could find when I searched.

It's good to hear some QJ user experiences. I've found this video of the QJ being used with the SUV adaptors and it certainly gives good height. https://youtu.be/DC64L7uRsa4

I have over 1m / 3 feet headroom above the Z4 so could go higher, but I take your point on what's necessary particularly with a crawler. Obviously you couldn't get the adaptors under a Z4 and you mention that you use ramps to raise it first, I assume you lift without the adaptor, set the car on four ramps, then lift again with the adaptors? If so that's a neat solution, thanks for the info'

Yep it's a little extra step but when you need that extra room under it gives it, granted it'll never be a lift you can stand under but it's far nicer than axle stands.
