Hello! Quick introduction! I've just sold my 51plate 225 coupe TT and looking into getting a Z4 as a replacement it will be a daily driver (but only about 15 miles round trip to work) I've borrowed a 525 tds auto as a run around but it's too big and sluggish compared to the Audi!

Looking to spend about 6-7k (poss a bit more if the car is right)

So far seen plenty of 03/53/04/54 plate 2.5 with 40-50k on
Or 05/55 2.2 with 60k on
Or 06. 2.0 with 75k on

Is it worth getting an older low mileage car or getting the smaller engined facelift?

All seem to be band K road tax and there doesn't seem a lot of difference in the MPG they do

Any thoughts?

I went from 225 TT to a zed they are a much better sports car. I would suggest you go for a 3.0l to better the performance. MPG is very similar to the 2.5l and the TT. There are a few for sale on hear at the moment have a look if the for sale section. Although the power is only slightly more than a TT the Z4 weighs less and is much more involving to drive. Good luck with the search. I have a 3.0l on an 03 plate with 60k miles for 6k in October.

Recently drove the new 20i and an Audi TTS on the same day. The Z4 was a lot more fun to drive and put smile on face, the TTs was a great great car, very quick, but no where near as much fun, I got a bit uncomfortable after a while and I could tell it was a car I would tire from driving after a while. I didn't fell that way with the Z4 in fact I'm sure I'd find any excuse to go driving in Z4. Perhaps if I was 10 years younger, put some under car neons on the TTS and big sub in the back the it might be my kind of car! Fortunatly for me I've grown up bit! Plus there are loads of TTs everywhere and it's hardly standout or exclusive.

However the 20i Z4 was not comparing apples with apples and seemed to be lacking a punch where I felt it was really needed, even in sport mode, that's not to say it was slow, it just wasn't "special". I'm now going to be testing a 28i and 35is later this week. I'm sure one of these will do the trick and add the something that was missing. I'll let you know.

I owned a 2000 Audi TT 180bhp before getting my 2.2l Z4... The audi was nipier in the lower gears, but the zed pulls better 4th-5th gear...

I prefer the zed in looks by a landslide, but I do feel that the lack of power in general for the 2.2 is dissapointing when I was having a lot of fun in the TT beforehand. I can't go to the 3.0 just yet being 23 and insurance is already knocing around 1k... But im really enjoying modding the crap out of my zed.

You'll enjoy the car mate. go nuts!

I'm pretty happy with my 2.2i but it's true it could do with a little more power. On the other hand, improving handling really makes a difference to: I had a remap (+15bhp, but you can't really feel it) which especially resulted in a better throttle response. I now have normal tyres instead of rft's and looking to get the CDV removed and probably get better brakes. In comparison to what it was like when I first bought the car, it really makes a difference.

Of course it all depends on what you are looking for. If you can afford a 2.5i and you can find a good one, I would say go for that at the least. If not, a 2.2 is still better than a 2.0: the engine sound really different as it's a straight 6 instead of a 4-cylinder...

Insurance cost and tax was one of the reasons I finally chose to have a 2.2i

I would love to start shedding weight from my 2.2l But I really have no clue what i'm doing and I will break something... I never use the CD player as Radio is my best friend, if this is a fairly easy removable job then i'd have a go.

All doable but you would have to go pretty far for good gains: remove airco, swap seats, special light weight alloys, remove all sound insulation...
