Question on selling - Values

Ok, I'm thinking of selling the Z...mainly because of the fact the car is on 42K miles...and I don't want to sell it next year with another 10K miles on it, and take a huge hit.

I know the market for these type of cars is worse at this time of year, but just a loaded question, say the car is worth £24K privately now, what's it worth if I sold it next year in about may, in that how much could I expect to lose on it.

I just want to buy a cheaper car for about £6000, so that I can travel up to Newcastle as many times as I need to and not worry about the miles piling up etc.

Just thinking about it for now, and will see about selling it, and if I can really stand to part with the car. I'd keep the money away and then see what it would buy me next year, maybe a 2.0 with a whole load of options....

No don't do it, you're going to lose money regardless so you might as well drive something nice.

I'd keep it. Even 24k is optimistic at the moment and you could get a good Golf diesel for 6k for your Newcastle runs

Isn't the rule of thumb, they drop 65% over 3 years?

I've been offered £23,000 by someone for it, and am thinking about it, but not sure. I just want to take the money out, stick it away and not think about it, and then see what it will buy me in 12 months time.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Z, but I don't want to get it to 60K miles, which I could do in a years time.

I've seen something to replace it, but I am just thinking about it for now....

The car you buy is also going to loose money and its not as desireable as your zed, also, it will be harder to sell on with another few thousand miles on the clock and another year older.

Then here is there are potential repair bills!

You've certainly got some thinking to do. :)

i'd sell it as next year, you can still buy another z4 and you wont have wasted as much money on depreciation and clocking up the miles

i'm holding onto mine for 3 years after which i might go for a 35i which i would estimate at being around the 15k mark then for an m sport

Realistically the selling difference between a 42K and 60K miler won't be that great, I would keep it and use it.

Tim.

when i was travelling from newcastle to norwich every week i spent 2k on a celica with 102k on it.. put a new set of tyres on it for my price of mind really... all i spent was 250 for the full set plus one service at the local garage for 100 and put 25k miles on it in sold it for 1500 after 8 months maybe worth considering

What age/model of Z4 have you got? I've looked on Autotrader and, assuming you could negotiate off circa 5%, then using your £23k figure you can start to look at cars with an asking price of around £24k; this will get you a late plate and low miles. So, if someone has offered you £23k for a car with 42k on the clock then personally I'd bite their hand off :P ! That said, the game changes if you have a 35is with lots of toys.

Although it's inevitable that prices for convertibles will be stronger in the Spring, unless there's a radical overhaul of the UK (and world) economy in 2013 then I still see it as a buyer's market.

If your mind's already gone down the road in respect of the car I'd take a solid offer, unless it's super rare ANY car worth over £23k today will be worth a lot less next year with or without more miles on it.

Mine is a 35i with DCT and White Design Interior, with M Sport bumper and 326 M Sport alloys....on a 10 plate. Price seems about right, but I'll think about it. Just going to sell it and put the money into some premium bonds and then see what's around next year.....
