Question on non-standard wheels and warranty

Hi all,

I've got a collection of warning lights on and the manual says it's a DSC system failure.

It's under approved used warranty but I've put a set of E46 M3 wheels on it, so the question is do you think they will get out of honouring any warranty claim since the parts I've replaced are so closely related to the problem? Or am I entitled to put other wheels on it? I imagine it's one of those things that depends on the dealer in question...

Thanks all.

Your 19" M3 wheels are BMW parts and in the correct offsets so there should be no problem with the warranty IMO.

How long after fitting the wheels did this show up? If the wheels have been on for a while without problems, it would probably not be the cause so warranty wise shouldn't be a problem.
If, however, the light came on straight after, then it is connected to fitting the wheels, and would only return straight after a reset, they would probably charge noting this as the cause.

Well the offsets are different than the standard Z4M wheels so I wasn't sure whether they would argue that they're not suitable...

I've done over 5,000 miles with the new wheels so that's not the issue - but haven't really got any way of proving this (other than the fact that it's already been into the dealers a while ago with the wheels on).

do you still have the original wheels you can swap back for the visit to the dealers?

What I mean is that the offsets are appropriate for the vehicle so I don't believe that they could argue that they are the cause of your issues.

Well especially if they've had the vehicle in for service and not mentioned the fact - I'd say don't worry or even mention it. :)

I do but they're with my parents and it feels like quite a lot of effort to swap them back!

I think you're right.

Yeah I'll stop worrying :)

Aftermarket wheels are fine.

Sorry thanks for that too! I wasn't sure whether that was a hard and fast rule, or whether it would depend on weight, offset etc as to whether they were approved or not.

Thanks all - we'll see how I get on.
