Question from a newbie

Hey all,

I'm going to keeping my eye on a 2009/10/11 for next year and hoping that I'll be able to pick one up for just above the £10k mark by then, especially after the new Z4 comes out in 2016. What kind of prices do you think they'll be next winter time? Hoping that I'll get a better price just before Christmas 2016 time.

My main question though, after looking at loads of pictures and not being able to see anything...if you didn't have sat nav installed, there's still that push button on where it would be, what is that? Is it a storage compartment or it just doesn't open and it's there if you want to retrofit a sat nav? Also, if it was there, is it just the sat nav or is it like new BMW's with the whole entertainment screen like radio, phone etc.? And does it go down or is it fixed upwards?

Hi Andrew,

price seems reasonable. If you have 12k, you could have mine today. It has nav too. Done high miles but in excellent condition and still in extended bmw warranty.

back to the point. The nav screen comes up when you put the key in. Its nav, computer, dvd player, car status, phone, music etc. It closes when yiu remove tye key.

no nav means its just a storage box.

regards

Hiya, I do not suspect you might be able to get some high millage ones at the next year however there is currently no news on a Z'd replacement. If you do a search or even look in this section it's been discussed a lot and the replacement was initially rumoured for 2017 and late into 2017 not 2016 IiRC and at the Geneva Motorshow a BMW designer advised it would be more like 2020 before a replacement hits the market.

There are no spy shots, no real information apart from it won't be called the Z4 and it's a joint venture with Toyota, again the Supra also was rumoured for late 2017 early 2018 launch.

We are in June right now so if your not in the position to buy just now, you never know.....things might change before then but your estimating buying a car in 18 months time so undoubtedly things will change which may influence prices and what your after.

Hey and welcome to the site.....seems your going to be hear a while so why not introduce yourself properly?

Depending on the engine you want and any other must haves inside you may get some around £10K next winter.
2 years ago when we were looking for ours there was one for sale at £12995 but it was as basic as it could get with cloth seats.

Ah OK, I just did a bit of a Google and it came up with the 2016 rumours so just jumped on that potential opportunity for a price reduction haha.

I'm hoping to spend no more than £11,000 on it with decent mileage but obviously I'm in no rush! Looking now, for about £12-13k there's leather seats, sat nav etc. so hopefully with another 18 months and a winter sale I should be able to find something.

Well, about me, I'm Andrew, 29, living back in the homeland of Wales for now and I'm a teacher :) I'm driving a Mini Cooper right now and it's OK, only had it a year and it's in lovely condition considering it's 10 years old. But I'm a bit bored of it; it's a bit of a fad car. I'm tired of big dials and its quirkiness. I want something a bit more substantially elegant and stylish. I was living in London for years so didn't have a car for, gosh, 7 years before the Mini. I really wanted one too at the time. I know the ride on the Z4 is probably still going to be firm with the run flats and stuff, but you have the payoff that you're in a Z4, whereas in the Mini you don't and it's really fun to throw around, but yeah, it's just, it's like a go-kart. You tire of bumping over anything and cringing at going over a pothole.

Lol! When I was 17 I had a BMW Mini Cooper S, that was in 2002. If you don't like the feel when going over speed bumps, uneven roads etc then the Z4 might not be the car for you and really you should be avoiding potholes where possible. If that's a task then I would advise avoiding cars with 19 inch wheels as your more likely to have them crack on you.

I loved my Mini and I'd have it back in a heartbeat as a second car. Ideally if you've not tried one maybe you want to have a test drive to find out if it's really the car for you.

Thanks for suggesting I avoid potholes, I hadn't thought of that one :| lol, they happen without notice sometimes; with the Mini I've come to know the condition of my regular roads intimately. I've driven one a few times, albeit short distances as a colleague has one. But you misunderstand, I dislike the car more than the ride. I've tired of the Mini a lot quicker than I thought I would. What about the Mini did you like so much?

Ah I see. Now I understand. Well for me it was my first car and first car is always your first love if it's something you really wanted but then I had a chilli red cooper S with no expense spared, JCW additions to it, glass sunroof, full leather, 4 additional lamps on the front. Was just a stunning car and just loved throwing it about. It was rapid and if it wasn't for the fact I got about 3k less than I paid for it when I sold it 6 and a half years later in immaculate condition, I'd still have it. I can still remember going into the show room and being ignored for almost 40 minutes but I had cash and I knew what I wanted.

It had its faults but I just loved everything about it and not even the ride out me off but then I made sure I didn't have RFTs from the word go.

When I had it, it was new, funky, the in thing and before other makes like fiat with the 500 started bringing back their oldies in an up to date platform. By the time I sold it in 2007 I was ready for a new car, a Civic Type R and some Spanish girl paid me the silly price I had put it up for without hesitation or haggling. Still to this day it looks mint and lives not too far from me.

That's an incredible deal you had and it sounds a little stunner! We have similar car thoughts, I've always had a soft spot for the Type R as well, though I've never had the chance to have a go at one, and I still prefer the old shape. I think the gear stick sways my decision a bit haha.

Our other car is a 2007 Mini Cooper and to be honest the ride is a whole lot better in the Z than the Mini.
I know exactly what you mean about the big stupid dial in the middle of the dash, its outdated and spoils the whole interior.
