Question for roadster owners

I use roof down and aircon on,..... what is so wrong with that?
I don't hear complaints about roof down and heater on when its cool outside..
so why is the reverse of this scenario so alien to people?
If i feel chilly I will blow hot air on me, if I am hot I will blow cold air on me, just cos the roof is down doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Ok its more efiicient with the roof up, but it may as well be a Mondeo then.

Yep roof down aircon on, will put the roof up if I'm stuck in traffic on the motorway to stop being burnt to a crisp on those odd days when it's hot enough. I drove my e46 'vert from one side of Spain to the other with the roof down and aircon on :)

AC on with the top down - definitely! Just like having the heater on with top down. It can really improve the driving environment. But if it's really hot, or in loud, smelly traffic, top goes up. Let the BMW AC do it's job - that's what you paid for!

Some really interesting comments here, and good to see that the attempt by coupe driver JDM to sabotage this "roadster only" thread failed miserably and he was immediately shot down. :guns: :poke: (just kiddin' John). :D

I can honestly say I had never ever considered running the A/C with the top down, simply because I thought it would just be a waste of fuel. I usually just turn the whole air con system off to stop the fans completely when I have the roof down, although in the E89 the fans automatically slow right down just after you put the roof down if its in AUTO mode.

I'll definitely try the A/C on next time we get a really hot day and I have the roof down.

No but I have thought... "I look like a hairdresser. I best buy a coupe" :poke:
You seriously need to change your avatar/profile pic ..

Seriously.. If it offends you that much then just don't look at it.. simple really

I'm all for the roof down and the Aircon on :)

I'm often surprised how many roadsters roll around in London on hot sunny days with the roof up. The first gimpsed of sun and the top's gotta go. Why buy a rag top and not use it??

Back in 06 (i think) we had a really hot spell in the UK. I was in the Z3 back then which had no air con, and these cars also suffer much less buffeting than the Z4. One day i went out for a drive it was that hot (about low to mid 30s) i was being fried alive, and just had to put the roof back up. Felt like a numpty and looked like a beetroot when i arrived home. `

Does it ever get too hot outside and you think, "... I need to put the roof up and put the air con on..."

I remember a couple of years ago I did exactly that, but it just felt wrong.... :?

Not a great problem in Scotland, but just curious to know what others think. :D

When it's over 95 degrees F in the Las Vegas desert, yes. Otherwise you would arrive at your destination with the back of your shirt looking like it just came out of the clothes washer

I'll admit that when the air temperature rises past 100F, the top goes up and the A/C gets turned to max. Who needs perspiration stains on black leather?
