question for owners using ctek chargers

Thanks for the reply.
Are the quick release terminals the eyelet connectors that stay permanently bolted to the battery +ve and -ve? Can you use these on the bonnet terminal?

Why would you want to put then in the bonnet? Its a battery charger, stick direct to the battery

Because unless you keep the connectors permanently on the battery it's far easier connecting under the bonnet, plus personally I would rather not have to disconnect the battery unless really necessary.

I'm with Mrbodger here. Have a battery maintainer but unsure as to how I connect. ///M battery in the boot seems silly to connect to if there are dedicated charge points under the bonnet at the front of the car (also being the end I prefer to point into my garage and nearest the power outlets).

Anybody kind enough out there to maybe do a little how-to in Haynes style photos for us charging newbies?

One of the nice things you can get from CTEK is the comfort indicator, it has colour-coded (red/amber/green) LEDs which flash about once per second to show you the state of the battery and lets you know if it could do with charging. If the battery needs a charge, the charging lead on CTEK chargers plugs straight into the comfort indicator - although you could use a different make of charger and charge via the under-bonnet points in the normal way

Mine is in the boot permanently connected to the battery via the eyelets and threaded up and into the boot space so that I can see the indicator lights whenever I open the boot. It should work just as happily connected to the under-bonnet charging points and, if you're storing your car for the winter you should be able to arrange the lead so that it pokes out of the car at a suitable point and can be seen when the car is locked - leads are a little short for this but some additional cable and heat-shrink tubing should sort that out.

Costs under £7 (delivered) from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002MT8S7E

They also make a panel socket version which may suit the M cars as it looks like it would fit nicely on the wall of the 'battery box' (assuming there's enough clearance) and create a plug-in charging point in the boot http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ctek-CTE-56380-Comfort-Indicator-Adaptor/dp/B002OHXX60

Does anybody have a picture of the charge points under the bonnet? The car just aboth started this morning after a month laid up and I want to make sure the battery conditioner I bought from Lidl recently get used.

Just need a step by step photo guide on attaching to points and/or battery without blowing myself up!

Cheers

Connect the red positive lead from your charger to the red positive point in the engine bay (top right in pic), you will need to pull the red plastic cap off. Connect the negative black lead from your charger to negative point located on the drivers side suspension turret, you will see a small metal bar that petrudes out. Then plug into mains, don't attempt to connect with the charger already connected to the mains.

Cheers Tim. Think I asked before if this was the same on an E86 but assume its not going to be massively different.
