Question about changing wheels

I have a question about changing my wheels. I currently have Z4 stock 18 inch Ellipsoid style 107 sport package wheels. These are staggerd with 8 x 18 - 225/40 R18 Front and 8,5 x 18 - 255/35 R18 Rear. I just dont like them. I came across a set of used OEM BMW wheels that may work, but the seller doesnt know. They are 17x8.5 - 225/45 R17 all the way around.
My question is about the fronts. Since the stock wheels are 8 inches wide, is 8,5 too wide for the fronts? Will they rub when I turn? They are BMW OEM wheels from a 540i. I'd apreciate any expert advice.

You do not say which model you have and the 107 was not standard on any model.

I personally would not change down a rim size unless you have very good reason. It won't look as good by a long way. Teh wider fronts may well worsen handling and increase tramlining.

In terms of fit you will need to find th offset of the wheels you are looking at and then post and someone will comment if it's approporaite.

My only other comment is that when a fitter put my rear 8.5 on the front iin error it fouled the strut, but with correct offset some have managed to get an 8.5 on
