Bought my z4 2 weeks ago from a bmw dealers in warrington, dealers told me it did'nt need a service but after checking service book it appears its been over two years since oil change. Would it affect my 12mth warranty if I got my inspection 1 due in 4000miles and oil change done at an independent bmw garage local to me? Sorry for the long winded question and thank you for any advice :D

Fairly certain if its the BMW warranty then it must be done at a franchised dealer. Also the BMW warranty relies on a full service history and it would appear yours doesn't have that - back to the dealer me-thinks.....

BMW shouldn't sell a car where is due within 2 months IIRC.

Warranty will only allow 1 month over 2 years overdue on service otherwise warranty is void. I returned a ///M to main dealer after finding the service was 8 months overdue after pointing out the warranty was void, they werent happy but tough.

As Alan says you will need BMW to service to maintain the warranty.

Thank you for the replys I shall ring them tomorrow,Bmw dealers have been a nightmare since day one when they even left the forecourt 'approved used bmw' number plate on the front as I drove happily home not realizing :headbang:

Read your print carefully on the warranty as under EU law cars only have to be serviced to manufacturer standards not mandated to be at the dealers.

In this case though I'd be back to the dealer for it all done FOC plus brake fluid that is a 2 year change.

CJ that only applies to Manufacturers warranty IIRC

If its Approved Used BMW then the dealer should service the car if the clock shows <4000 miles to the next service before selling it. If it's just over 4000 miles then I would have used that as a negotiation before buying. If you have already bought you may be able to persuade the dealer to give you a decent discount off the service - after all they will want you to use them for future services rather than going to a different dealership.

Mileage isn't the problem here it's time, but the principle is the same.
