Quaife now installed... with LSD-flavour pix

...as #320 will be ten this year, and she's been very well behaved, I'm treating her to an early birthday prezzie... she's booked in at Birds for a Quaife ATB LSD

PerryG - would love to know the cost etc once completed as this is a mod I have been considering.

as she's getting the LSD, Birds are also doing a trannie oil change - it's cheap and a bit silly not to while she's up in the air

Nice upgrade, very, very useful I found that on the M.

Speaking of which, why is there an M in the price list?

I believe that Quaife do a version for the ///M as well - IIRC the LSD in the ///M is a clutch pack type which will eventually wear out, the Quaife replacement will be cheaper than replacing with OEM

Noticed they do one for the E89 35is model as well
Yes and there's a review of the E89 with the quaife diff

Perhaps it'll stop the ///M owners, and ex-owners (PVR), mentioning 'lack of LSD' at every opportunity
But it won't be a pure Alpina now so we can bring that up.
Have to give you something to carp about don't I?

Seriously though, the LSD won't really change the character of the Alpina - it's invisible and won't affect the ride or normal handling but should stop the irritation of the BMW electronics cutting power if a wheel starts to slip e.g. when coming out of a junction or accelerating hard on a damp/greasy road.

I've done quite a bit of research on the Quaife diff and everything suggests that it'll be very well matched to the torquey nature of the Alpina engine - if I find that it isn't, I won't hesitate to switch back to a standard open diff.

I don't think you will switch back :D

This is one mod i have wanted to do for the start, they are excellent bits of kit and will make the car drive great, don't forget to give us some feedback when you get it fitted

great thanks for that .. just reading it now :)

Looking at the price list it suggests that there is 2 different M Coupe's.
I take it that the gearing is different in both of these and one will be quicker than the other?
